Time Spent Driving Just Enough Bright Sessions Records This music is just too much whining, without much else. Every song is a letter written to some girl from some guy about how things went wrong. It's not just whining, but it is whining from a singer that often sounds just like Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray. I'm trying but I hear it and I think Sugar Ray. Sugar Ray would probably be better. A major turn-off on this disc is the various repeated phrases:"I miss the us we never were", "I don't feel alive at all", "all this for nothing", etc. Some of these songs whimper so much that they seem insincere. It feels almost like an insult being subjected to this. If you're feeling down and you want to listen to something sad, anyone could understand, but 10 songs with the same format combined with this subject can only make you feel worse. Besides this, the sound is great, and the songs would be good if they weren't all so plain. "Rain On Sundays" has an up-tempo beat and some brilliant guitar, with slight piano in the final chorus. "Sleep And Matchbooks" is another fast and upbeat song, but eventually meets the recurrent hazard, descending in to the whine pitfall. If you pay close attention to the lyrics, the songs may habve more valuethan if you mindlessly listen to them. They are well-worded and thoughtful, but the repetitive choruses are enough to drive you away. It would be better if every song wasn't filled with repeated mumblings about some faceless lost love. There is more out there. If you're really into emo, you may find it to be an enjoyable listen, but please play it in moderation.
