In the late 70's, Chrysler was going bankrupt. They were making "boats" that guzzled the fuel constantly, compared to Japanese imported cars. Chrysler then built the K-Cars (Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant) in 1980, which saved a ton of fuel, and were the first front-wheel drive's. The K-Car offered more leg room, better traction in winter, transportation for 6 people, and very affordable--just what a family wanted. In the 80's, the Reliant had a basic opinion: cheap and reliable.
In 1989, the K-car had it's final run.
