Agency Bebop

Chapter One: The Job

A cloud of smoke enshrouded one Jet Black as he leaned beside the window in his small office, his dark blue curls framing his angular face as he stroked his blue whiskers in thought. His gun was strapped in a gun holster that swung around his back, his black tie loosened contrasting with his starch white shirt, his black pants and shoes immaculately clean.

“Hey Jet. Any calls?” a man’s voice called as the door to the Agency opened and shut, the bang waking Jet’s dog Ein that lay napping in his worn swivel chair.

“Hey Fad. Nothing new.” Jet replied as he extinguished his cigarette and moved away from the window. Fad sighed as he hung up his jacket, running his hands through his brown hair.

“Want to order Chinese? It’s almost 10 and it’s pretty dark outside.” Fad suggested as he flopped down on his own chair opposite Jet’s, the blue haired detective tossing his partner a menu.

“Yeah, yeah. Best head home.” Jet replied as he lifted Ein out of his seat and sat down. The dog barked in its little voice and jumped back on the table, via a stack of thick phone books. Jet crossed his fingers, the light glinting off the small metal implant underneath his eye.

“The ISSP seems to be doing well these days. Ever consider joining?” Fad asked as he rose from his seat and placed the memu on Jet’s desk. Ice blue eyes stared back at Fad and Jet laughed.

“Me? I don’t know. If this detective gig doesn’t work out, maybe. I mean being a private detective is like being a bounty hunter, without a bounty being put on my head by the ISSP.” Jet said as he smiled, ruffling Ein’s fur as the dog yawned.

“We could be undercover agents, bursting up syndicates and the like.” Fad said with some flare in his voice as he eased into his chair, starring at the ceiling.

“Could be.” Jet replied as a knock rattled the door.

“Company.” Fad said as he straightened his tie and walked over to the door. Checking to see that the person was unarmed, he opened the door. A woman strolled in, dressed in a short black dress that had a low neckline, a red shawl wrapped around her body and her dark purple hair was held in a bun with a flower through it. Her lips were painted a brilliant red and her green eyed gaze rested on Jet as he rose to greet her.

“Welcome to the Bebop Agency. Please have a seat.” Jet said as he gestured to the seat in front of his desk.

“Thank you.” The woman purred as she sat down. She pulled out a cigarette and Jet offered her a light. She lit up and exhaled in a puff of smoke.

“Don’t do that too often. That stuff kills.” Fad said with a smile as he leaned on Jet’s chair.

“I’ll keep that in mind.” The woman replied as she smiled at Fad.

“What do you want?” Jet asked as he sat up in his chair, his ice blue eyes boring into the woman’s.

“Of course detective. My name is Faye Valentine, and I’m looking for my poor little daughter.” Faye said as she pulled out a picture from her bag and slid it across the desk. Jet eyed the picture, his confusion showing in the gentle lift of an eyebrow. The kid in the picture was odd. Bright orange hair and rosy cheeks with a cheeky smile, she was dressed in spandex shots and a short white t-shirt. She looked about 13.

“I don’t see the resemblance.” Jet asked as his eyes narrowed in suspicion. The woman smiled, trying to keep her cool.

“She has her father’s looks. Look, will you find her or not? I’m worried about her.” Faye said as she sniffled, taking a tissue from her bag and dabbing her eyes. Jet kept his reservations and suspicions to himself as his partner replied.

“Don’t worry Miss. Valentine, we’ll find your daughter.” Fad said with a gentle smile.

“What’s her name?” Jet asked as he placed the picture into a file.

“Her name is Ed. Her father named her something quite lengthy. She was last seen two weeks ago playing at the park in the Hightower district.” Faye said as she rose to her feet.

“Is there anything else?” Jet asked.

“Yes. In the time that she’s been gone, my poor Ed has gotten a bounty placed on her head. Apparently she’s using her great computer skill to wreak havoc on suspecting people! I’m afraid that other bounty hunters will find her first and that’s why I’m so worried.” Faye said with a tearful gaze.

“A hacker? That’s new. How much?” Jet asked in reference to their fee.

“Two million wulongs. I’m very generous.” Faye said with a smile.

“I can tell. We’ll take the job.” Jet said dryly as he nodded his consent.

“Great! When can I contact you?” Faye asked as Jet led her to the door.

“When we have the girl safe and sound. You’ll transfer the money into out account when we contact you and you’ll get her back.” Jet said.

“You boys are great. Bye bye now." Faye said as she blew them each a kiss and left. Jet shut the door and signed.

“We’re going after a hacker?” Fad asked as he grabbed his jacket.

“Time to put Ein’s genius to work. We’ll have to pose as bounty hunters if we have and chance of finding the kid. We’ll check out the bounty on her head and see what she’s been up to. Also run a check on Ms. Valentine. No doubt she may be a bounty hunter as well.” Jet said as he grabbed his hat.

“It was cute the way she tired to flirt.” Fad said with a grin as Jet grabbed a couple of his folders.

“She was?” Jet asked, sarcasm heavy in his voice.

“Don’t get jealous Jet.” Fad said as he put his arms around his partner. Their lips met in a kiss, Jet’s strong body, cradling Fad’s.

“Who says I’m jealous?” Jet replied with a smile as he kissed Fad again, running his hand through his partner’s hair. Fad laughed as he pulled away from Jet.

“Never you love. Come on, let’s get out of here. I’m still hungry.” Fad lamented as they walked out of the office, Jet turning off the lights as they left, Ein at their heels.
