Takeo - Ahh! I love Dave Matthews Band and when I saw the video for their song "The Space Between" I was gone because it reminds me of well…let's not get into that shall we?
WuFei - Yes, Takeo- *Takeo muffles WuFei*
Takeo - Fei-kun stop struggling.
WuFei - &@#%^*?!
Takeo - Translation …evil onna I will kill you. Bad Fei-kun. *Let's WuFei go*
Duo - Okay, the fic contains angst, lime. Takeo doesn't own GW or us, neither does she own "The Space Between" sung by the Dave Matthews Band. Comments are appreciated, craved even.
Trowa - You sounded like Snagglepuss on that last line Duo.
Quatre - After watching Toonami murder us, it doesn’t matter any more.
Takeo - Okay let me explain this. Anything in ~ Hi ~ Are the lyrics of the song. WuFei and Heero will be saying some parts of it and the lyrics will still be in ~ hi ~ so that you know that it's the song lyrics. Anything in / Hihi / are thoughts

The Space Between
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

WuFei watched as Heero slept soundly. Sloe eyes watched the rise and fall of Heero's chest, the Perfect Soldier exhausted after engaging in 'stress relief' with WuFei. WuFei blinked back tears as he kissed Heero's lips softly. He didn't know how long he could keep this up. Sex with Heero was great, there was no denying that, but WuFei only stayed with him because he loved Heero. He had come to this conclusion after laborious denial of his feelings for the Japanese youth. WuFei rose from the bed, careful not to disturb Heero. The safehouse was quiet, the only sound WuFei heard was the slight cooing coming from Trowa and Quatre's room, the two lovers falling asleep. Duo was yet to come back from his 'date' with Millardo Peacecraft, but WuFei wasn't going to go there. Heading down the stairs of the somewhat large safehouse, courtesy of Quatre's connections, WuFei found himself in the kitchen. He was tired of everything; of the war, of keeping his nightmares at bay…and of the conversation that he had a few hours ago with Heero…

*flashback*

Heero grunted as he took WuFei, the ebony eyed boy moaned under him, crying out in pleasure as Heero pounded into him, shuddering hard as he came in WuFei, their cries slowly ceasing.

"Are you okay?" Heero asked as he pulled out of WuFei and settled beside him.

"Hai." WuFei replied as his heart skipped a beat. This was as tender as he ever got with Heero.

"Good." Heero replied as he moved to his side of the bed, settling down into sleep. WuFei bit his bottom lip. He had been debating for weeks about what he was about to say. He only prayed that Heero's response wouldn't be too violent.

"Heero..." WuFei said as he sat up and faced Heero, pulling the bed sheets consciously around himself. Prussian eyes blinked open.

"Hai WuFei?" Heero replied as he sat up. WuFei breathed in deeply and clutched his arms to his chest.

"Heero, I…we've been doing this for about four months now right?" WuFei asked as he kept his eyes on Heero.

"Yes, what's the point? You don't want to anymore?" Heero asked in confusion. He was sure that WuFei enjoyed their experiences together.

"No, it's not that. Heero, the only reason why I agreed to it is because…is because I love you." WuFei whispered as his eyes bored deeply into Heero's. Heero blinked back at the raw intensity of WuFei's eyes. He had never seen them so open and honest at the same time. His prussian eyes hardened and his voice grew cold.

"WuFei, I told you from the very beginning that this was not a relationship." Heero said as he gestured to the bed.

"I know but-." WuFei began as Heero cut him short.

"But nothing WuFei. If you don't want this, you can leave." Heero said as he turned his back to WuFei and proceeded to sleep.

*end flashback*

And thus WuFei was in the kitchen, nursing red eyes from crying, looking for some water to patch his dry throat. Never in his life had he made such a mistake.

"Why was I so stupid?" WuFei asked as he cradled the bottle of cold water in his arms, looking at it for answers.

"Good question Fei. I was never one to pry." A voice spoke in the darkness. Shining amaryllis eyes revealed Duo at the door.

"Duo, what are you doing up this late?" WuFei asked as he hastily wiped his tears away.

"Ah. Too late, I saw those. I was out with Zechs, but man you look like hell." Duo said as he sat beside WuFei on the cool floor. WuFei's hair was all a mess, his eyes were red and he had small dark circles under his eyes.

"I guess that you can say that." WuFei replied as he opened the bottle of water and poured some of it on his face.

"Want to tell me what's wrong?" Duo asked as he put his arm around WuFei. WuFei shook his head.

"I don't think you can help me Duo." WuFei replied as he stirred intently at his water bottle. Duo thought for a minute

"Then I'll guess what's wrong. Let's see, you smell of sex..." Duo said. WuFei almost choked on his water.

"Duo!" WuFei said angrily.

"Oops, guess you still won't talk about it. But anyway, Heero's involved right? Did you guys fight?" Duo asked in concern. WuFei nodded.

"You're right that it has to do with Heero. I told him that I loved him." WuFei said as he stared down at his feet. Duo was shocked for one thing. He never knew that WuFei had it in him to actually admit his feelings, let alone come to terms with them.

"It was hard for you to say it right? I guess Heero didn't respond too well to that." Duo said.

"Yes. He said that from the very beginning that we…we were only doing it for stress release. I only agreed to it because I love him. I can't go back, after he rejected me like that. I feel like a whore." WuFei whispered as he swallowed a lump in his throat, forcing down his tears.

"Fei, come here." Duo said as he opened his arms. WuFei crawled into them and sobbed gently.

"I'm so weak Duo, I mean gods I'm just a mess. I'm not even worthy of Heero." WuFei whispered.

"Don't say that Fei. Everyone's soul is worth something. And if Heero can't see what he's doing to you, he isn't worth having you. You're my best friend Fei, just gather up your courage and move on, I know you can." Duo said as he kissed WuFei's forehead while soothing back black silk. WuFei nodded.

"Thank you Du-chan." WuFei said with a smile. Duo laughed.

"You're just too cute. Come on, we've got a few hours of sleep left. We might have missions. You can crash in my room." Duo said as he and WuFei rose from the floor.

Heero lay awake in his bed. It was elated, euphoric even to find out that WuFei loved him. But he simply refused to hurt WuFei. Theye were in a war, which guaranteed no promises, no tomorrow, there was no place for love, even though Heero had hoped for it so fervently, to see a tomorrow with WuFei by his side. But as every mission came, there seemed to be no end in sight. Heero got up from his bed and stared at the window. It was a clear night and the stars were in plain view. Off in the distance, dark storm clouds moved closer and the moon was dark like some hidden secret and Heero rested his head against the glass. He heard a murmur of voices and Heero stood still, he placed the voices as WuFei's and Duo's. A door shut and his own room door opened, revealing WuFei. WuFei shut the door and turned around, his heart leaping to his throat as he saw Heero leaning by the window. Sighing, WuFei turned away from Heero's gaze and sat on his side of the bed, his back facing Heero.

"WuFei I …" Heero said as his hand reached out towards WuFei. WuFei turned around.

"Heero… I can't stay with you any longer, you were right, I shouldn't have started something that I couldn't finish." WuFei said as he got up from the bed and picked up the few belongings that he had.

"~ You cannot quit me so quickly ~" Heero said as he approached WuFei, sensing the seriousness in the Chinese boy's eyes.

"~There's no hope in you for me, no corner you could squeeze me?~" WuFei replied as he faced Heero. " I can go on without you. I seem to be insignificant to you, the only time that you have for me are just those two precious hours twice a week~ but I got all the time for you, love ~and now, I realize that you can't need me like I need you." WuFei whispered as he picked up his bag.

"WuFei…" Hero said.

"I'm rooming with Duo, if you care. I can't stay anymore." WuFei whispered as he left and shut the door silently behind him.

~ The Space Between
The tears we cry
Is the laughter keeps us coming back for more
The Space Between
The wicked lies we tell
And hope to keep us safe from the pain ~

Heero sat on his bed in his room completely alone. He had pushed WuFei away. The Chinese boy had cast aside his fears and spoke to him from his heart and all he caught was a harsh rejection. Heero coiled on his bed, grasping his blankets for warmth.

/Run after him you baka/ Heero's heart screamed.
/No, it's best for both of us./ Heero's mind argued back.
/Shut the hell up! Screw the war. Who says you can find love anywhere you look?! You can't let him walk away!/Heero's mind screamed back irately. Heero thought for a moment and bolted from his bed.

"WuFei!" Heero shouted as he opened the door and charged over to Duo's room which was at the end of the hallway.

WuFei sat at Duo's chair contemplating what he had just done. /Was it right? It hasn't stilled my love for him, it only grows, beating faintly, dying each time that I think of him./ WuFei's thoughts were interrupted as a loud banging sounded on the door.

"Fei, tell 'em to go away, Not morning yet." Duo said as he went back to sleep. WuFei opened the door and saw Heero standing there, Prussian eyes so dark after he had tried to calm himself to knock quietly on the door.

"WuFei, please can I talk to you?" Heero asked. An elegant eyebrow raised and WuFei nodded. He shut Duo's door and Heero led him downstairs to the living room.

~ But will I hold you again?
These fickle, fuddled words confuse me
Like "Will it rain today?"
Waste the hours with talking, talking
These twisted games we play ~

Heero sat WuFei down and sat opposite the boy. He laced his fingers together, worry emanating from his frame.

"WuFei, I'm sorry for hurting you." Heero whispered as he looked at WuFei. WuFei looked past Heero, out the window were clouds were slowly staring their rain.

"Heero, sometimes, I try to figure you out. ~We're strange allies, with warring hearts. What wild-eyed beast you be~ I don't know. I find you beautiful, something from my dreams. But I can't make you love me because you don't, and I can't change how I feel about you." WuFei said as he held Heero's hand in his. Heero sighed as WuFei's smooth skin came in contact with his rough hands.

~ The space between
the wicked lies we tell
and hope to keep us safe from the pain ~

"WuFei, I do love you, with my whole heart. I didn't want to lose you, ever. This war, it drags on and on, and I can't see an end in sight. I didn't want us to be together with so much madness around us. I wanted to spare you any pain if I ever died. So I couldn't get close to you, to tell you that I was in love with you. I thought you would reject me, because you had your own path to take. And *I* was afraid that you wouldn't have any room in your life for me." Heero whispered. The storm outside went from raining to pouring.

~ Will I hold you again?
Will I hold… ~

WuFei smiled as he cried and hugged Heero tightly, crushing his body against Heero's.

"Oh Heero." WuFei whispered as his tears followed down Heero's bare back. Heero embraced WuFei, his own tears mingling with black silk.

"Fei-chan." Heero whispered as he stroked WuFei's face, brushing away the tears that formed there. WuFei smiled, for the first time in four months, the smile transforming his whole face into happiness. Heero leaned forward and captured WuFei's lips in his, his arms holding WuFei's body closer to his. Both their senses awakened to a new stage were they were truly entwined with one another.

~ Look at us spinning out in
The madness of a roller coaster
You know you went off like a devil
In a church in the middle of a crowded room
All we can do, my love
Is hope we don't take this ship down. ~

"He-chan, wo ai ni." WuFei whispered as the two boys untangled from the kiss, similar smiles on their faces.

"Ai shiteru Fei-chan. I'll do my best to not hurt you and you are all that keeps me sane throughout this war." Heero said as he kissed WuFei again, his heart flooding with emotion that he had never experienced. He too, had left his fears behind. WuFei smiled through their kiss and pulled away from Heero.

"Come on." WuFei urged as he led Heero outside into the rain.

~ The space between
Where you're smiling high
Is where you'll find me if I get tickled ~

WuFei tore off his shirt and peeled off his pants until he was standing in his black boxers. Heero stood at the door in his blue ones as WuFei danced in the rain.

"WuFei what are you doing?" Heero shouted so that he could be heard in the downpour.

"Join me Heero!" WuFei yelled. Heero sprinted over to WuFei and WuFei spun him around in a circle, wet grass tickling their feet.

"WuFei, you're so…crazy." Heero said as he pulled WuFei closer, the Chinese boy laughing hard.

"No it's fun. I love the rain. Look, it's stopping slowly." WuFei said as he pointed to the clouds.

~ The space Between
The bullets in our firefight
Is where I'll be hiding waiting for you
The rain that falls
Splash your heart
Ran like sadness down the window into
The space between
Our wicked lies

Is where we hope to keep safe from the pain ~

The clouds cleared and the starry night appeared back. WuFei tugged Heero beside him and they sat down.

"Can you feel, how quiet it is, with the way the stars look?" Heero asked as he laced his fingers with WuFei's.

"Yes." WuFei breathed, brushing his wet hair away from his face.

"It's the space between us, what it looks like. It's where we can hide out from the pains of war and live within each other, with love." Heero said as his Prussian eyes embraced the feeling of being free. WuFei nodded.

"To hide away from pain. Maybe someday we can create this space from everyone." WuFei said as he smiled at his love.

~ Take my hand
'Cause we're walking out of here
Oh, right out of here
Love is all we need here ~

"Let's go." Heero said as he picked WuFei and his clothes up. The two returned back to the safehouse and lay in their bed once more. They stared at each other, finding completion in this souls as they made love, their hearts in their own special place.

~ The space between
What's wrong and right
Is where you'll find me waiting for you ~

Dawn approached, shining her rays into Heero and WuFei's room, and unto the bed where they lay asleep, curled in each other's arms. Heero's eyes cracked open as he watched WuFei. Brushing back black locks of hair, his fingers traced elfin ears and the small mouth of his lover, and over caramel skin that looked golden in the early rays of the sun.

"~ The space between your heart and mine, is the space we'll fill with time.~ I want to spend forever with you WuFei." Heero whispered as he kissed his lover and cuddled WuFei, falling asleep again.
