After
ditching my punk-rock band and failing to find another direction
to my life I started hating music in all its forms. In order
to sober up and prevent myself from doing anything stupid,
I locked myself into my room for weeks (I really wasn't
counting, but it was a long, horrible time). During this
time my mind wouldn't stop repeating a piano line I thought
I had heard somewhere. After making up with my guitar, that
piano line turned into song that I recorded in about a day
and a half. The lyrics pretty much leaked out really fast,
too. I came back to it early this year and gave it a better
treatment. The song is Soul Angel. Yes,
it's about some girl I knew and no, that's not her on the
cover art.
The
Great Unknown song is the follow up. If
you listen to it and think that it's about death, then you
are absolutley right (not that the lyrics are really cryptic
or anything). It's all about unexpected death and how people
like me fear what comes next. It's based on what happened
to a girl named Monica earlier this year. Nice girl... bright
future... cut in her prime by a bus. Locally it brought
everyone down for a while, so that's when I shamelessly
used the scenario as fuel for this track.
Border
Song, is a cover of an old Elton John tune; a personal
favorite of mine. I don't know why but after I finished
the other two songs, this one seemed to fit in well, at
least that's what I thought. I kind of think they're all
distant cousins. Don't ask anymore, just listen; I think
it's possibly my best vocal job to date.
Just
as an extra I included a bonus track ("how original!").
Eternity is that beautiful Robbie Williams
song that happens to be another one of my favorites. And
from now on it's going to be my "friend song".
This a sort of castrated version of the track I recorded
last year and didn't really clean up, but it serves its
purpose. This one goes out for my 'REAL ALLIES' (God knows
I only have a few) but specifically for Martha! Felíz
Cumpleaños, Martha!
