Introduction |
[The inside of the DuPont Manual High School gymnasium fades into view, along with the over 1,600 raving fans in attendence. "We Die Young" by Alice in Chains starts up, alerting the already standing fans to the beginning of Riptide. The lights dim, and theatrical smoke begins to spill from the entranceway as the commentating duo of Harvey Schultz and J.J. Jackson walk out from the back. Schultz is dressed in black slacks and a black dress shirt with the collar unbuttoned while his counterpart is garbed in a pair of extra baggy blue jeans, a bright yellow FUBU shirt, and backwards New York Yankees ballcap. The camera makes a complete circle around the larger than normal gymnasium, showing the bleachers to be nearly full. The shot finally comes to a rest in front of Schultz and Jackson at the commentating table.] Harvey Schultz:: Howdy, folks, and welcome to the AWA weekly broadcast of Riptide. Tonight, Richard Cormier and company look to eliminate all of their enemies in one fell swoop. J.J. Jackson:: Yo, word, cracka. Tonight, the Killer Hill Devil gots to fight Kris Kartier for his belt tonight. Harvey Schultz:: That's right, Cormier has matched up former tag team partners and champions in an attempt to have them destroy one another. James Nightbane, Brotherhood of the New Lights turncoat, has been placed in a handicap match against the Folk. Pyro-Maniac is back and out of the hospital. Tonight, he's gonna be looking to inflict some damage...permanant damage...to his opponent, Corleone, in a Hardcore match. J.J. Jackson:: Yeah, yeah, and them hooligans the Bastardos gots to defend them belts tonight against the Mastahs. The Mastahs grew up on tha streets of New Jersey, and I grew up on tha streets of New York. I gotta soft spot in my heart fer them two. Harvey Schultz:: You know, the quality of tonight's main event will be questionable. I mean, give me a break, Cormier has Nyghtmare and Mandrake thrown into a match, knowing damn well that neither are at a hundred percent. Both Mandrake and HaZe took a hell of a beating last week on Riptide in what many consider the best match ever to grace an AWA ring thus far. On the other hand, Nyghtmare took several shots to the head with his own barbed wire Singapore cane. His brains have got to be scrambled. J.J. Jackson:: Wait, I jess got word that HaZe has arriveded backstage wit' Reece Williams, and he be headin' to tha ring. Uh oh, what's wrong wit' tha lights? |
Open Challenge |
["Painkiller Introduction" by Professional Murder Music starts up, and so do the boos. The AWA Heavyweight Champion, HaZe, limps out into the spotlight with a look of confidence on his face. Richard Cormier walks out right behind him with a microphone in his hand. The two enter the ring and gaze out into their sea of haters before their music cuts out and the well-dressed Cormier begins to speak.] Richard Cormier:: Last week on Riptide, Mandrake and HaZe engaged in what many believe to be the AWA's best match thus far. Both men suffered injuries, but in the end, who came out on top? That's right, YOUR Heavyweight Champion...HaZe! [The crowd begins to boo as Cormier turns to his chosen champion and smiles. HaZe grins back due to the fact that they're getting under the crowd's skin.] Richard Cormier:: Man, HaZe, people hate you everywhere we go. Even in your own home state! [HaZe is now beaming as he pulls the microphone to him for a moment.] HaZe:: I know. It's sad, isn't it? But the truth is, I could care less about these non-believers. The aren't Enlightened, and the fact that ninety percent of them have never read a book, and the other ten percent prefer picture books, makes it obvious that it's too late for Enlightenment. [By now, the fans are booing the two men as they laugh in the ring. Cormier takes the mic back again and raises it to his mouth.] Richard Cormier:: Seriously, HaZe, after a job well done last week, you have the night off. As for Mandrake, I commend his efforts, but he couldn't quite... [HaZe interrupts him and grabs the microphone as Cormier looks at him questioningly.] HaZe:: Actually, Cormy, if you don't mind, I think I can handle a "warmup" match tonight, just so I don't get rusty. Richard Cormier:: You sure? You were pretty banged up after last week. HaZe:: Yeah, I think I can handle it. Nothing too extreme, you know. Richard Cormier:: Well, champ, I think everyone is booked for tonight. HaZe:: Are you sure? There's gotta be somebody that wants a shot at this belt. Hmmm...how about J.J. Jackson there? You want a shot at this belt? You wanna be Enlightened? [J.J. Jackson quickly shakes his head, declining the offer as the fans continue to show their disapproval for the Brotherhood of the New Lights members.] HaZe:: You don't want a shot at the gold? How 'bout some chicken? And what about you, Mr. Schultz? The legendary Texan! You want some of this? [Harvey thinks about it for a moment, the slowly shakes his head, declining the offer.] Harvey Schultz:: Sorry, I got a job to do, son. HaZe:: You're supposed to be some big, tough Texan, and you decline my offer? You're a disgrace to Texas. Then again, Texas is a disgrace to America. What kind of state prides themselves on being "bigger"? "Fatter" is more like it! [Suddenly, "Dig" by Mudvayne starts up and out walks half of an Army of Two, Jerry Verboncour. The fans begin to cheer for the Vietnam veteran as he stops in the middle of the aisle, pulls a microphone from the back pocket of his Army fatigues, and begins to speak.] Jerry Verboncour:: Hey, douche bag, Jerry was in back when he hears this jackass out here talkin' bad about his home state of Texas. HaZe:: Who is this sheep? [Cormier shrugs as they both look as Verboncour.] Jerry Verboncour:: So Jerry figured he'd come out here and accept your challenge for the Heavyweight Championship. [The fans begin to cheer as HaZe looks at Cormier in disbelief. They both then begin laughing.] HaZe:: Ha ha ha! YOU want to face ME for this belt? Ha ha ha! Are you serious? Jerry Verboncour:: Does Jerry look serious? HaZe:: You look like a mentally retarded schoolboy, but that's besides the point... Jerry Verconcour:: Yeah, we'll see who looks retarded when this Pissed-Off Texan gets through with you. I'm gonna go get my gear, and then I'm gonna beat your ass, Charlie! [Jerry thrusts his finger into the air as the fans cheer. Then, he turns and heads to the backstage area as Cormier and HaZe stand in the ring, trying not to laugh.] Harvey Schultz:: I don't believe this! We're going to have an impromptu match here in a little bit between Jerry Verboncour and HaZe for the Heavyweight Championship! This is crazy! [HaZe and Cormier leave the ring as a few of the fans pelt them with empty beverage cups.] |
Rosco's Gauntlet: Standard Match: A Damn Fine Man vs. Cliff Anderson |
["Shelf in the Room" by Days of the New starts up as Rosco Pico Train, Grendel, and Cliff Anderson head out from the back. The crowd showers them with insults as the three undercarders head to the ring. The all enter the ring and climb turnbuckles to pose for the crowd, but their poses are unwanted as they can tell from the crowd's reaction.] Harvey Schultz:: Well, after that shocking announcement, we have Josh McCool, that Son of a Bitch, taking on not one, not two, but three men in succession. Do you think he can make it through the gauntlet, Jules? J.J. Jackson:: Yo, ADFM's tough, but three guys is gonna be tuff, T-U-F-F tuff! ["Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth starts up, and the fans are cheering as Josh McCool walks out onto the ramp along with his lovely valet, Alice Loysell. A Damn Fine Man stops in front of the entrances and shrugs a few times before popping his neck. He then continues down the aisle and climbs up the ring steps.] Harvey Schultz:: Now this is a gauntlet match, which mean Rosco and Grendel need to leave the ring. Perry Daton needs to get those guys out of the ring. [McCool enters the ring and is immediately attacked by Cliff Anderson as Train and Grendel exit the ring. Perry Daton calls for the bell as Anderson lays several clubs into ADFM's back. McCool stands and nails Cliff with a headbutt, staggering him. McCool bounces off the ropes and goes for the Facelift, but Anderson ducks to avoid it. McCool changes in mid-move and nails a Damn Fine Move on Anderson. Grendel backs him into the corner and begins to choke him, but ADFM breaks the hold and drills Grendel with an elbow to the face. Grendal stumbles back a few steps, giving Josh McCool the chance to plant him in the middle of the ring with a bodyslam, followed by a pin. 1...kickout!] J.J. Jackson:: Damn, Grendel is one big dude. [ADFM pulls Grendel to his feet and hoists him into the air with a vertical suplex, then slams him down hard. McCool then backs away and waits by the ropes. Grendel slowly comes to as McCool bounces off the ropes and hammers him with a running power lariat!] Harvey Schultz:: Facelift! [ADFM covers him and hooks the leg. 1...2...3! Son of a Bitch lifts Grendel to his feet and throws him out of the ring, but Rosco Pico Train is quickly in to continue the assault.] Harvey Schultz:: Well, Grendel is done for. Now it's just Rosco Pico Train against a Damn Fine Man. |
Rosco's Gauntlet: Standard Match: A Damn Fine Man vs. Rosco Pico Train |
[Rosco shoves ADFM into the corner and begins stomping him. Train then runs to the opposite corner and charges across the ring at his opponent for a running splash.] Harvey Schultz:: Here comes the Train on Sunday! Rosco with the big splash! [Rosco hits the big splash in the corner, but ADFM wraps his arms round him, spins out of the corner and hits a belly-to-belly suplex! The crowd begins to cheer as McCool comes off the ropes and hits a big legdrop, followed by a cover. 1...2...kickout! Rosco is pulled up to his feet and Irish whipped, but Train reverses the whip, sending McCool into the ropes. ADFM bounces off the ropes and nails the Facelift, sending Rosco backwards into the ropes, where he's shot forward. McCool nails him with a boot to the mid-section, then a Fame-Asser! McCool quickly covers him. 1...2...3!] Harvey Schultz:: A Damn Fine Man walks right through the gauntlet! Uh oh, all three men are in the ring attacking McCool! |
Enter the Darkness |
[Grendel and Anderson slide into the ring and begin pummeling McCool, then shoot him into the ropes. McCool catches both men with a double-clothesline, knocking Anderson to the mat and stunning Grendel. Gutter runs out from the back and slides into the ring as McCool plants Grendel with a spinning spinebuster. Gutter clotheslines McCool from behind!] Harvey Schultz:: McCool was taking care of those three men until Gutter attacked from behind. He must be sore at Son of a Bitch for that loss he received last week at his hands. [The four men in the ring begin to hammer on McCool, even though he valiantly fights back, knocking Anderson and Train to the mat before he's backed into the corner. McCool is still throwing punches as the lights go black, causing the fans to scream.] o/` What have I done? o/` o/` I feel so bad, I feel so numb, yeah!o/` ["Feel So Numb" by Rob Zombie starts up as the lights flicker back on. James Nightbane is already halfway down the aisle sprinting to the ring when fans see him. He slides into the ring and takes out Anderson and Train with a double-clothesline. McCool hits a haymaker on Gutter, knocking him to the ground, then kicks Grendel in the groin, causing him to prance out to the center of the ring where James Nightbane is waiting for him with an Implant DDT!] Harvey Schultz:: Darkness Falls on Grendel! He's out cold! [Gutter is back up, and ADFM is hammering him with big right hands. He then runs to the other side of the ring, bounces off the ropes, and catches Gutter with the Facelift, knocking him over the top rope! McCool grabs Cliff Anderson by the trunks and tosses him through the ropes, then Nightbane and ADFM come face to face! The fans are in a frenzy!] Harvey Schultz:: Nightbane and ADFM have cleared the ring, and now they're standing nose to nose. What's gonna happen next? [Nightbane reaches inside his black trenchcoat and pulls out his Book of the Dark Lights, then offers it to McCool. Son of a Bitch looks down at the book for a moment, then out at the fans. He slowly grabs the book and looks down at it. A grin crosses Nightbane's face as McCool opens the book and thumbs through a few pages. McCool smiles, then extends his hand. Nightbane shakes his hand as the fans give a mixed reaction. ADFM then takes the book and smashes it into Nightbane's head. James holds his head as McCool plants him with a Damn Fine Move, throws the book on top of him, and rolls out of the ring while the crowd cheers madly!] J.J. Jackson:: That was dirty... Harvey Schultz:: James Nightbane just offered a Damn Fine Man a spot in his group of darkness, and he got his answer. I don't think it was the answer he was looking for! |
Standard Match: HaZe vs. Jerry Verboncour | Heavyweight Championship |
["Dig" by Mudvayne starts up, and Jerry Verboncour steps out into the spotlight, receiving an unusually large number of cheers. HaZe climbs into the ring as Cormier shouts words of encouragement from the outside.] Harvey Schultz:: Let's not forget that HaZe is still feeling the effects of his hellacious match with Mandrake last week. That oughta help out Verb. a little bit, but not much... [Referee Perry Daton calls for the bell, and the match begins. HaZe and Verboncour hook it up in the center of the ring, but HaZe pushes Jerry back into the corner. Daton tries to get a fair break from HaZe, but the champ instead decks Jerry in the side of the face. The fans begin to boo while HaZe lays several kicks into Jerry's stomach. Jerry falls to the mat, giving HaZe the opportunity to choke him with his boot. Daton finally gets HaZe to break the hold as Verboncour rolls to the outside of the ring. Cormier is there waiting and he nails Verb. with a clothesline, knocking him to the ground while HaZe distracts the referee in the ring.] Harvey Schultz:: Wait just a damn minute! Richard Cormier isn't supposed to be involved in this match! [Cormier lifts Verboncour to his feet and shoves him back into the ring. HaZe is on him again with a series of boots and stomps. Jerry slowly pulls himself up, then shoves Cormier away and stares at him. Cormier begins to back up as Verb. slowly stalks after him. Seeing Richard in trouble on the outside, HaZe hops up onto the top rope and catches Jerry in the back of the head with a flying double-axe handle. Jerry goes down.] Harvey Schultz:: He's just toying with him, that's all. Perry Daton:: 1...2...3... [HaZe throws Jerry back into the ring, then follows him under the bottom rope. Mandrake limps out from the back, a bandage above his eye and his ribs taped up. The crowd goes crazy as he makes his way around the ring with his sights set on Cormier. Richard begins to walk away from him, but Mandrake breaks into a sprint. Cormier runs as fast as his old legs will carry him as the injured Mandrake gives chase. Jerry bails out of the ring and heads to the back with the Heavyweight Championship slung over his shoulder.] Harvey Schultz:: J.J., quick, pinch me! I must be dreaming. [J.J. reaches over and pinches Harvey's arm hard.] Harvey Schultz:: Ow, you idiot! I didn't REALLY want you to pinch my arm! J.J. Jackson:: Well then you need ta keep yer cracka-ass mouth shut then! [Inside the ring, an infuriated HaZe begins screaming and kicking the ropes. Cormier rolls into the ring and tries to console him, but it's no use. HaZe begins pleading his case to Perry Daton, but he won't listen. HaZe snaps and decks Daton, sending him down to the mat. The crowd begins to boo as HaZe rolls out of the ring and grabs a steel chair. HaZe slides back into the ring with it, shoves Cormier out of his way, and waits for Daton to stand back up.] Harvey Schultz:: No HaZe, don't do it! [HaZe waits for Daton to turn around, then raises the chair high into the air and cracks it across the top of his head. Verboncour quickly spins around, ready for a fight, but Kartier simply extends his hand. Verboncour shakes his hand.] Nyghtmare:: Nice job out there. Jerry Verboncour:: Thanks. Nyghtmare:: But don't get to attached to that belt, because after I take Mandrake's belt tonight, I'm coming for yours. [The two glare at each other for a second before Kartier turns and walks away. Suggs, Jerry, and the Don all turn to head back out to the ring, but are stopped by a waiting Kill Devil Hills Daredevil.] Mandrake:: Congratulations, but you'd better watch you're step. Everyone's gunnin' for you now, including myself. After I deliver an unholy beating to Nyghtmare tonight, the Omen tells me that the Heavyweight Championship is next in line. [Mandrake stares at them until the three men walk offscreen. Then, the shot returns out in the gymnasium at ringside.] |
Standard Match: Billy Suggs vs. Gutter |
["Dig" by Mudvayne starts up, and the crowd gives a mixed reaction. Some are cheering for Verboncour while others are booing Suggs. Gutter makes it to his feet and stumbles around the ring as Suggs lands several unanswered blows to the head. [Gutter lifts Suggs off the mat and hooks him for a German suplex, but Suggs mule kicks him in the groin, unseen by the referee. Gutter falls to the mat as the Don walks around the ring and begins talking to Referee Horton. Suggs motions for Jerry, and the Heavyweight Champion slides into the ring and throws Billy his belt. Jerry lifts Gutter up and hooks him from behind as Suggs sizes him up, then charges him with the belt. Gutter breaks free and dodges out of the way at the last second. Unable to stop, Suggs lays out his tag team partner with his own championship belt. Suggs tosses the belt out of the ring and looks down at his fallen friend, but Gutter takes advantage and rolls Suggs up in a schoolboy.
