It wasn't possible. It made no sense. A flip of a switch, and the image of Angewomon impaling Myotismon with her Celestial Arrow appeared on the rather beaten screen. It was the sixth time in as many minutes that the video feed had ran across the screen in what was left of Etamon's charriot. Ever since he'd been destroyed by MetalGreymon, the metallic vehicle had been left to be swallowed up by the desert. Kai sat back in the control seat the Etamon had once occupied, still not able to believe what he'd just seen. Somehow, the two smallest of the DigiDestined had come to possess the two most powerful Digimon out of all of them. *Except for me*, thought Kai, a grin coming across his otherwise emotionless face. Finally, he'd had enough. He flipped the switch, and the screen went blank. Kai rose from the chair, and straightened his sleek, black leather trench coat.
He turned to the right, and looked out at the seemingly endless desert region of Cerver. The retractable side of Etamon's charriot was gone, exposing the interior to the elements. Kai had been rather surprised that any of the electronics still worked. "That's one thing you have to admit about Etamon", Kai said to himself, "His Dark Network was a technological masterpiece." Kai cocked his eyebrow when he heard a clanging on the top of the charriot. "What is it?", he said, sounding slightly annoyed. Slowly, a figure lowered its head down from the roof of the charriot. The figure was a Digimon, and a rather nasty-looking one at that.
"Kai", said Skullmon, "Was that you talking to yourself again?"
"Shut up", snapped Kai, "I simply have a taste for intelligent conversation."
"Whatever", Skullmon said, shaking his head, "So where is that idiot anyway?"
Kai pulled a pair of jet-black sunglasses out of his coat pocket, and slid them on his face. He then looked back up at Skullmon. "He said he'd be here. Why he chose a barren wasteland like this is beyond me."
Skullmon shook his head, "All I know is, this trip had better be worth it. I don't want to think that we trekked across this stupid desert for three days just for you to watch Myotismon get his rump kicked by that traitor, Gatomon!"
"Myotismon chose the wrong friends, hee hee", said a voice behind Kai. Kai whipped around, and saw a small Digimon, no taller than his knee, crouched on the control panel.
"Are you?", started Kai.
Skullmon flipped down from the roof, and moved in front of Kai, shielding him from any possible attack. The monkey-like Digimon rose to its tiny feet, and hopped onto the ground. "You're the one who summoned us here?", asked Kai, not believing what he was seeing.
"You got that right, Partner!", said Simimon, "It was me that called you here, and now that you are here, we can get to work!"
"Work?", Kai said, sounding skeptical, "You didn't say anything about work in your transmission. You said that you had a way to get me back to the real world! If you lied to me, Ape Face, I'll have Skullmon skin you alive!" Skullmon narrowed his eyes, and raised up his hands, with their razor-sharp finger tips for Simimon to see.
Simimon stepped back a few feet with his own hands up, "Hey, wait a minute here! You got me all wrong! I wasn't lying when I said I knew how to get you back to the other world!"
Kai folded his arms, and glared through his shades at Simimon, "Well? What is it?"
"Hold on, Buddy", Simimon said, grinning, "You want a little, you got a give a little, you get me?"
"Oh, I get it alright", said Kay, gritting his teeth, "This is extortion, you little freak! Skullmon, nail this little jerk to the wall!"
Skullmon pounded his fists together, and took a step towards Simimon, who jumped out of the charriot. "BONE NEEDLE!!!", yelled Skullmon, firing his razor fingertips at Simimon, and promptly growing new ones back as soon as the old ones left his hands. The projectiles flew at Simimon with incredible speed, but the monkey Digimon lept up into the air, dodging all the needles.
Kai stepped forward and looked in awe, because Simimon seemed to be hanging in the air. "What the-", he started.
Simimon started laughing quite loudly, "I heard you were ruthless, Kiddo. And here I was thinking that all you humans were a bunch of goody goodies. You and your boney friend have made quite a name for yourself here on Cerver. So much that a buddy of mine wanted to see just how ruthless you were!" Simimon put his fingers in his mouth, and let out a very audible squeal. Kai looked, and saw something erupting from underneathe the sand. A giant spider flew out from under the sand, and landed right in front of the charriot.
Spydramon glared down at Kai and Skullmon with all eight of his eyes. He looked at them for a moment, and then started rumbling with a hidious laughter. "Ha ha ha ha haaaaa!!!", he bellowed, "THIS is what I've come all this way to destroy? Look at you!! You're worms!! Worms not even worthy of my effort....still it is a long trip out of the desert, and I could use a snack!" Without warning, Sydramon spit a blob of purple goo right at Kai. Skullmon reacted instantly by jumping and knocking him out of the way.
"Are you alright, Kai?", he asked.
Kai lifted up his head, and pulled off his sunglasses, "Yeah, but that overgrown cockroach is going to pay for that, right?"
Skullmon nodded, "You got it, buddy!"
Kai jumped to his feet, and looked as Spydramon was turning towards them, preparing to spit another glop of his poison. He slipped his gloved hand into his coat pocket, and pulled out a black Digivice. He held it over his head, and grinned an evil grin. "It's party time", he said quietly.
The Digivice glew to live, and fired a beam of light at Skullmon, who narrowed his eyes to slits as he waited in anticipation. SKULLMON, DIGIVOLVE TO........NECROMON!!!!! Once the metamorphosis was complete, Skullmon had grown to over thirty feet tall. He was now a giant skeleton with spiked boots, gauntlets on either arm, and a tattered red cape that whipped around behind him like two wings. Necromon's eyes glew red with power. Necromon took a massive step towards Spydramon, who realized what he'd gotten himself into. "BONE CRUSHER!!!", bellowed Necromon as two blasts of dark energy exploded from his eyes, smashing into Spydramon and vaporizing him instantly.
"Way ta go, Necromon!", yelled Kai, jumping up in the air with one fist raised, "Now, get rid of this little freak too!!" Necromon turned his attention towards Simimon, who was still floating in the air. He drifted back a bit when the massive Digimon turned to face him.
"Ha ha ha!!", laughed Necromon, "You'll need to do more that float to get out of the pile of crap you've just stepped in!!"
"You think so?", laughed Simimon, "Well then, thanks for the tip. How's this? DARK NETWORK CONCERT CRUSH!!!!!" A network of black cables appeared over Necromon.
"What the-?", said Kai, not believing this. The cables fired some kind of engery discharge into Necromon, and he howled with pain. An aura of light surrounded him, and he shrunk, turning back into Skullmon. He then fell flat on his face in the sand. Kai looked back at Simimon, who was coming closer to him.
"Do you need another demonstration?", he asked, "Or can we discuss this like civilized businessmon?"
"Only one Digimon can use the Dark Network", said Kai, "You used to be Etamon, didn't you?"
Simimon grinned, and chuckled a bit, "You're good, Kid, I'll give you that. That's right, I was once Etamon, the most powerful Digimon on this rock of a continent...before those rotten DigiDestined came along and ruined everything I worked so hard to create."
Kai nodded his head, "I heard about the whole thing from a Neomon I met some time ago. You tried to destroy the other DigiDestined in a pyramid not far from here. Then, you merged with your Dark Network, thus Digivolved yourself to TechnoEtamon. However, that twerp, Tai, managed to activate his crest, and Digivolved Greymon into MetalGreymon. He launched his GigaBlaster at you and destroyed you."
"Not a chance", said Simimon, "All that stupid thing did was devolve me all the way to Zinomon. It took me forever to build up enough energy just to Digivolve to Simimon."
"Which doesn't explain why you need us?", said Skullmon, who had gotten back to his feet, and stood next to Kai.
"Ah, straight to the point", said Simimon, "You're not too bad, for skullbrain."
"Why, you-", growled Skullmon.
"Shut up!", said Kai, smaking Skullmon on the back of the head, "Let's hear him out. He needs us for something, or else he wouldn't have called us all the way out here."
"True", said Simimon, "The truth is, I hate being Simimon. Sure, I've got some of my power, but not nearly enough to reclaim my former glory. I can only do that if I'm Etamon again."
"Which doesn't explain why you need us", said Kai, "You managed to Digivolve to Etamon once before, so why can't you just do it again?"
"Kid", Simimon said, "Do you have any idea how long it took me to Digivolve to Etamon the first time? Longer than you could possibly imagine! Ain't no way I'm going to sit around and wait for that again while some other shmuck like Myotismon comes along and tries to take over the Digiworld before me!" Simimon dropped down to the ground, and looked up at Kai, "What I need are the other DigiDestined's Digivices, tags, and crests. With all of them, I can Digivolve back to Etamon in no time."
"Let me get this straight", said Kai, sounding skeptical, "You want me to steal eight Digivices and eight tags and crests? Even if I had a chance at succeeding, there's no way I could. All eight of those losers are in the real world."
"Not for long", said Simimon, "They're coming back, and soon. You need to be ready for them when they get here."
"And how would you propose I do that?", asked Kai, "Sure, Necromon is one powerful Digimon, but he's not going to be a match for eight fully digivolved digmon, two of them being Angemon and Angewomon."
"Simple", said Simimon, "You'll use this." Simimon tossed something to Kai, who caught it, and looked in his hand. There, he saw a black tag. His right eyebrow cocked, and he looked back at Simimon.
"If this really is a tag", he said, "Then that would mean that I have a crest as well."
"Which will allow Skullmon to Digivolve once further", Simimon finished. Kai turned away from Simimon, and looked at the tag in his hand. Long had he awaited to finally confront the other DigiDestined and wipe them all out of existance. Now, with this tag, Necromon would be able to Digivolve into who knew what. Whatever it was, it would be enough to destroy all the DigiDestined, leaving only him.
"Alright", he said, not looking at Simimon, "I'll find my crest, and then I'll get the Digivices, tags, and crests for you. Once you Digivolve to Etamon, then you tell me how to get myself and Skullmon to the real world. You can rule the Digiworld, and I can rule the real world." Kai looked back at Simimon, and grinned maliciously.
"You know something, Kid?", said Simimon, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
