The show opens with a medal presentation
and introduction to each member of the
tournament. Ace Darling showboats with
his trophy before the tournament gets
underway.
1st Round
Match 1: Ace Darling Vs. "Lightning"
Mike Quackenbush
Quackenbush takes control several minutes
in with a Flying DDT and a Top Rope
Hurracanrana, but only gets 2 on a pinning
attempt. He then hits an Atomic Knee
Drop into the Fisherman's Suplex for
another near fall. Quacky then goes
to the top rope, but Darling hits his
trademark Superkick, followed by a German
Suplex for the 2 count. Quack regains
control again, blocking a Superplex
attempt and driving Darling down hard
with an Atomic Knee Drop all the way
from the top strand. However, his comeback
was short lived as Darling rolls through
a Victory Roll attempt by Quackenbush
for the pinfall victory at 9:40
Match 2: The Inferno Kid Vs. Dangerous
Devon Storm
Lots of brawling to start this one
out and many nearfalls in the early
going. This was a very faced paced match
with chants of "Inferno" throughout,
as the fans were fully behind the returning
Kid. Devon finally grounds Inferno by
working on his injured left knee and
tries several cocky pinning attempts
to no avail. Towards the end of the
match....Action spills to the floor.
When both participants return to the
ring, Inferno blocks a Vertical Suplex
attempt by Storm with a DDT. Devon is
very wobbly at this point and Inferno
just lays into him with lefts and rights.
Inferno hits a Dropkick and 2 Running
Japanese Style Legdrops but only gets
a 2 count. He then hits a beautiful
Top Rope Hurracanrana and Powerbomb.
Devon later counters by trying for a
Sunset Flip but Inferno had the presence
of mind to sit back and hold Storm's
legs for the pinfall at 14:32. Storm
than throws a tantrum and chucks his
pads, nearly taking color man ES Easton's
head off with one of them.
Match 3: "The Superstar"
Lance Diamond Vs. Mark "The Shark"
Shrader
Diamond comes to this match sporting
new trunks and a new short hair cut.
He slaps Shrader when he offers his
hand and later begs for "The Shark"
to shake his own hand when down in the
corner. Very close match, with hold
after hold being reversed. In the end,
Shrader goes for a LeapFrog but Diamond
hits him with a low blow into the German
Suplex for the pin at 8:50.
Match 4: Reckless Youth Vs. The WWE's
Scott Taylor
Youth whines about how no one called
him when he was injured and berates
the fans. Match features lots of brawling
on the floor and many nearfalls. Reckless
has Taylor right where he wants him
and actually gets on the ringside mic
calling for the Youth Movement. He wastes
too much time and Taylor moves. Both
men are down but make it up before the
10 count. The action becomes fast paced
again, with Taylor hitting a Front Facebuster
for the nearfall and Reckless with the
Swinging DDT for a 2 count. He then
hits a Jackhammer and a nice Frog Splash,
but yet again, only gets 2. Youth then
had Taylor in a Fireman's Carry but
Taylor squeezed his way out and squeezed
in a roll-up for the pinfall victory
at 12:39.
Semi-Finals
Match 1: Ace Darling Vs. The Inferno
Kid
Mid-match, Kid begins to favor the
knee, allowing Darling to work him over.
Darling gets a nearfall after a Flying
Bodypress and then hits the Superkick,
but misses with the Alabama Jam, allowing
Inferno to get the pin with a Backslide
at 8:39.
Match 2: "The Superstar"
Lance Diamond Vs. Scott Taylor
Diamond still comes out of the face
locker room, even with the attitude
change. See-saw battle throughout. Both
men had many nearfalls in this match
as well. End of match....Diamond hits
a nice looking Swinging DDT. However,
Taylor gets his second wind and nails
Diamond with the Bridge Suplex for the
1-2-3 at 9:13. But it just so happens
that Diamond got his shoulder up at
the last minute and will advance to
the finals.
Super 8 Finals
"The Superstar" Lance Diamond
Vs. The Inferno Kid
Diamond becomes frustrated with Inferno's
counters in the early going. Mid-match,
Diamond holds the rope for Inferno as
he gets in the ring after action had
spilled out to the floor. He then checks
on him before kicking him leg out. Diamond
works over the knee and rips the knee
brace off of the Kid's leg. Inferno
fights back but Diamond toys with him.
He goes to the outside and grabs a chair
and places it on Inferno's leg. As Diamond's
heading to the top rope, Inferno takes
the chair off his leg and nails Diamond
with it, knocking him off the top. He
gives him another shot to the back.
Later on, he blocks Diamond's suplex
attempt twice and hits a nice DDT for
the nearfall. The match becomes very
close at this point, although Inferno
is heavily favoring the knee. Diamond
hits his trademark Northern Lights Suplex
but Inferno manages to kick out. However,
only seconds later Diamond scored the
pinfall with a beautiful counter maneuver
at 15:07 to win the Super 8 Tournament!
Commish Naegele tries to present Diamond
with the trophy and shake his hand but
is shoved down. "Superstar"
berates Naegle and goes on a long tirade
about how he hates wrestling fans. He
threatens to kick Jim Kettner's butt
and has the camera follow him to the
back. He is shown banging on Kettner's
office door, but who should be in there
but the Master. Diamond talks about
a bargain that in return for him going
back to his old ways and winning the
Super 8, Master would arrange for someone
to come down and see him next month.
He asks "Is that really you?"
on the telephone and apparently it was,
as supposedly this mystery person and
Diamond will take the ECWA by storm
starting next month.
Thanks
to Chuck Ristano of ECWA Today!
