November 2002

In November we finally were able to get a new hutch for the boys, partly because their had outgrown their old one, and partly because our guinea pigs were multiplying at an alarming rate and their family needed a bigger home as well. So, we bought the rabbits a beautiful new pine hutch, a little bigger than their old one (and a lot more expensive!). The guinea pig family was then spread out between their two hutches - their old one, and the rabbits old one.

Both Zander and Fergus were a little nervous of their new hutch at first. We had to paint it with a weatherproof lacquer first, and they didn't like the smell of it at all. After it dried they were happy to investigate though (and Fergus had a good dig of the hay!). What seemed to worry them more than the inside of the hutch was the getting out of it. They were extremely nervous about running down the ramp, as it was quite slippery. We solved that problem by putting a wet towel on it, so they could get a better grip.

They're completely used to it now, though, and it's not a problem for them anymore (especially when it's dinner time - nothing can come between Fergus as his seed bowl!)
