AUNT LIZZA

A tear rolled down her tired face,
as she thought of life in such a place
where the price of a man was less than
the clothes that he wore.

Oh! The burden they carried
and the pain they bore.

From day to day and through the night,
She prayed for a ray of hope, a gleam of
light.

What kind of life is this?
Why are we here?
no man should have the power to instill
such fear, in the hearts of women,
children and men
Just because of the color of their skin.

What kind of man could be so cruel
and bold, as to want to own and destroy
another man's soul.

She wondered when this life would cease
to be, for if she went to sleep forever, then
she would be free. She knew that one day,
on this earth
she would no longer be

Her body would be here, but her spirit
set free.
