Gorgeous...I (Olivia) luff this video.

This was an amazing video. Herb Ritts, known for his camera work, did an incredible job directing. The black and white photography was beautiful, especially his use of shadow and light. Everything was stripped down to match the simplicity of the song.

I like the way they started and ended the video with the 20’s skit, which is reminiscent of the short film and theme they had for “Gone” on the PopOdyssey tour. And the concept for the rest of the video is simple: Justin’s girl is “gone,” and he reminisces about her through the song.

Getting back to the use of shadow and light…when Justin is wallowing in his sorrow, the picture is dark and everyone is wearing black. When he’s having a flashback, the picture is lighter and everyone is dressed in white. Whichever room he happens to be in, he recalls a particular memory of her in that room. (Like, when he’s in the kitchen opening the fridge, he remembers her birthday party.)

It took me a little while to figure out why the leading lady looked so familiar. Then I saw the Polo commercials on TV and realized she’s a Ralph Lauren model.

My first reaction to the video: Staring at the screen with my mouth hanging open. My mom will testify to this, the video nearly took my breath away. I mean, when you get right down to it, they all looked sexy as hell. Em (GU&GD) emailed me and she couldn’t stop gushing at how “orgasmic” they looked…especially when they were all sitting on the bed. Oh, the thoughts that went through my mind when the camera panned over to JC. (satisfied sigh)

Justin painting the chic’s toenails was cute. She just tossed the bottle at him…good thing it didn’t hit him in the head. lol

The birthday party scene was funny. Em pointed out how Lance was freakin’ one of the girls. lol And then Justin was dancing around with the birthday hat on his face, and Chris was totally enjoying his alcohol. What’s up with the ONE measly cupcake, though? It’s no wonder she left him. lmao

“You’re…GONE!” I luff the way the picture flashes to the guys lounging around the stairway when they sing that. It’s such a teaser…they’re so handsome. Dayum.

Whooo! Justin scored. Getting freaky and rolling around in the dirt with his girl. lmao

As for the last few strains of the chorus, that’s the hotness right there. The shots of them sitting in the grass singing, and then the individual pictures of them in the empty house, were great. They never did reveal why the girl is “gone,” but that goes with the haunting end the song has.

One thing I’m bitter about is that every single one of the guys looked incredible, yet it was all about Justin, and the other guys were shafted and left with a mere 48 seconds of the four-minute video. (Really, my friend Kim timed it.)

And my friend and coworker Tasha shared my view, too. “There they are, looking all sexy, but then they sing ‘gone!’ and they disappear. My baby’s (Lance) gone, and we’re stuck with Justin.” lol Yes, we all understand that this is a Justin song, but 48 seconds out of a four-minute video? That’s just messed up.

But aside from that, my overall impression of the “Gone” video: I luffed it. As of now, it is my favorite of their music videos.
