Stephen Colbert is hilarious as a play-by-play announcer for "Hockey Night in Canada." That's how I watch my Red Wings games, which is why I was rolling. And Justin is so not convincing as a goalie [or a French Canadian] and that's why it's funny. Seriously J, that helmet mask? A little less like Jason, a little more like Chris Osgood. It's 2008, not 1958! lol
I mentioned witty parts of the movie. Meyers' guru acronyms and philosophical sayings were actually clever. "Guru: Gee, yoU aRe yoU." "Intimacy: Into ME, I SEE." "You must go from 'Nowhere' to 'Now HERE!'" "The only way out, is IN." And many others...they actually made me grin.
The musical numbers are gems by themselves. When Meyers did "More Than Words" I couldn't help but smile, but only because I was thinking about my favorite Mouseketeers, Tony and JC. I love that song. :)
Overall, anyone who loves hockey, as I do, will hate the way the game is portrayed. And I dunno if they used the real Stanley Cup in the movie, but I've been up close and personal with it, and it doesn't look real to me. Could be the way the names are etched in there, and the way the actors were hoisting it. It didn't look heavy on screen. I can already tell the hockey beat writers are crying and watching Slap Shot to get the horrible Guru scenes out of their mind's eyes. I appreciate that Meyers loves the hockey and the Maple Leafs, while Verne Troyer loves his hometown Red Wings. But seriously...no.
Thank you, Justin and Stephen...you make up for the horrible hockey references in the movie. The few times I enjoyed the movie at all was when they were on screen. If y'all see it, go to a matinee. Thank god I did.
