Big crowd turns out for Saturday Shows

Thousands of area residents turned out
Saturday for the third day of Riverfest, enjoying the music, food, drinks,
and meeting with friends.
A large crowd gathered under trees near
the stage as Nick Contorno's Big Top Brass Band kicked off the day's music
at 11:30 a.m.
The band delighted the crowd playing various
Sousa marches, patriotic and circus music.
Contorno said: "Welcome to this beautiful
park. Today is the return of patriotism. Today we're going to play some
of those wonderful tunes by Sousa. Another popular kind of music is that
of the circus. We love to play circus music."

Music the brass band played included "Washing
Post March," "On Wisconsin" and "Kentucky Sunrise."
Merle Zastrow of rural Watertown, who was
among the crowd listening to the patriotic music, said, "It's a good
brass band. It's a big band sound. We come every year at this time because
they usually have a big band. This is the best. The best thing I like
is the entertainment is free. We come every year. Where else can you get
this type of music?"
Pat Haase of Watertown added, "I like
that kind of music. It's not a loud as rock and roll. I usually come every
year." She said her favorite part about the festival is the variety
of food available from restaurants.
Marcy and Francis Godfroy indicated they
like to come each year for the music.
Al Anderson said it's a time for people
to hear classic tunes. "I think it's a great opportunity for us to
hear classic marches just like the old concert in the park days. It looks
to me like Nick Contorno has great players up there. They sound great.
Where else can you go to get this entertainment for free?" he said.
Following the concert Contorno said, "We
had a great time. Just being with the people, that's where it's at. They're
(songs) my favorites. These guys are great, they're wonderful to work
with. Little towns have the best things
