Special cancellations of medicinal Olympiads

 

If we look to the history of medicinal sports, there are many kinds of physicians in the World Championships and Olympiads. Sport medicine is also another branch in the medicine.

 

      

Montague Alfred Noble 1873 – 1940

He was dentist and cricket player. Noble played in 245 tournaments and was selected as the best player of his country.

 

              

Elzbieta Dunska-Krzesinska 1934 –

The Summer Olympiads in 1956 in Melbourne she springed 6.35 meter and got gold medal. After the Olympiads she became dentist in 1961.

 

 

 

Erhard Keller 1944 –

As he was studying dentistry in Munich University, he became Gold medal in 500 meters skating in Grenoble Winter Olympiads. He also was winner in 1972 Winter Olympiads in 500 an 100 meters skating. 

     

 

Lene Köppen 1953 –

She was Danish badminton player, equally expert at singles and doubles. In 1977 she became World singles champion and also won the mixed doubles. She was the All-England singles champion in 1979 and 1980 and won the European titles in 1978 and 1982. Köppen won the Nordic singles nine years running (1973-1981), the women's doubles nine times, and the mixed doubles seven times.

 

 

 

Kerstin Gustahofsdotter Palm 1946 –

Dentist, nine times Swedish and five times Scandinavian master in fence.

 

                                                

Eric Arthur Heiden 1958 –

American ice skater, winner of an unprecedented five gold medals in speed skating at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. He later became a professional bicycle racer.

 

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Heiden began training as a speed skater with his sister Beth (also a 1980 Olympian) as a young teenager. He participated in the 1976 Winter Olympics at Innsbruck, Austria, but did not win a medal. After finishing fifth at the 1976 world speed-skating championships, he became the first American to win the world title in 1977 and won the title again in 1978 and 1979.

 

One month before the 1980 Winter Olympics, Heiden won his fourth consecutive world championship, setting three world records. His dominance of men's speed skating continued through the Olympics, in which he broke one world record and captured the gold medals in the 500-m, 1000-m, 1500-m, 5000-m, and 10,000-m races. After the Olympics he refused numerous offers of commercial endorsements and turned to professional cycling.

 

Dr. William George Beers

He modernized the rules of “La Crosse”.  After studying dentistry in Montreal he was dean of the same faculty.

 

 

Michel Gabriel Paccard 1757 – 1827

After studying medicine, he was interesting in botanic and mineralogy. He climbed first on the top with his friend in 08.08.1786 Europe highest mountain Mont Blanc.

 

 

 

 

Karl Schnabl 1954 –

Austrian ski jumper, after his 90meters jumping in 1976 Winter Olympiads he got gold medal and became the leader of Austrian ski-jumping team for many years. 

 

Carlos Salvador Bilardo 1939 –

Bilardo was Argentinean famous football player. He paid his medicine studying with the money of earning from football. He trained Argentinean football team and in 1986 was the winner of World Championship.  Bilardo is fifth from left with red coat in the middle of seating persons.

                                             

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

      

James Naismith 1861 – 1939

is Canadian-American teacher of physical education, recognized as the inventor of the sport of basketball. He was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, and educated at McGill University and Presbyterian College in Montreal. He taught physical education from 1887 to 1890 at McGill University, and from 1890 to 1895 at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1891, aided by the American physical-education specialist Luther Halsey Gulick, he invented basketball as an indoor sport. Naismith developed the game as an activity for his students during the harsh winter months. He was director of physical education at the Young Men's Christian Association in Denver (1895-1898) and at the University of Kansas (1898-1937). As one of the most significant contributors to the sport of basketball, Naismith was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959. Officially called the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, the institution was named in his honor and is located in Springfield.
