09mar01- jen and i arrive on different flights into düsseldorf. despite the fact that mine was a direct flight, spend several too many hours at airports due to self-imposed layovers, but enjoy self by reading great little book called "sexing the cherry."
picked up by victor and co-worker jurgen. victor happy to see us.
jen and i rest. wonder about the un-squareness of squares of toilet paper. am further perplexed by victor's response, "welcome to the metric system."
5hour drive to berlin. victor upsest by lack of wanted rental car, is sadly stuck driving a really nice mercedes. unfortunately, dark outside and miss country view.
arrive in berlin, unable to locate morgan's borrowed apartment. visit victor's friend linda (rename her, more appropriately, steffi).
get directions to morgan's, find him frantically waving and yelling into his cell phone "look at me!"
10mar01- first day out. hop off the train on the way to berlin to see big flea market event. morgan is interested in sniffing the lederhosen.
jen admires the tall tv tower.

learn the beauty of the word verboten.
strange inexplicable pink pipes are found all over the city.
after visiting the not-yet-opened-but-architecturally-cool jewish museum, get caught in the rain.
make plans to meet up with estranged friend frank. he's being stupid and may very well let me come a quarter of the way around the globe and refuse to see me. happily, do meet up, though forget to bring him the oreos that were promised.
go dancing with assorted friends. emergency pants bought right before trip (due to unforeseen ripping in old pants) turn out to be too big. ask jen to notify me if appear about to fall off.
