Diamonds
I've gone through life
with bare fingers
for so long
and now the symbolism
of this catalogue
shocks and confuses me
Pictures of diamond rings and wedding bands
jump from the pages
and I wonder how to feel
I've always feared dependency
I've always feared its resulting weakness
but vulnerability is the fundamental nature of love
and trust is its only chance
So, I suppose these diamonds might represent
the possibility of betrayal and abandonment
but I'd like to think that they represent
the possibility of a loyalty that I've yet to experience
and a commitment comprised of a complexity
that I will never fully understand.
