Split

Trembling and exhausted
She forms these words on paper
Careful not to sound too desperate
But honest to reveal need
Always ending
With the sincerity of
I love you
And an illegible signature
mimicking her hectic life

but too many letters
and too many tears
cause comfort to turn its back
and indifference to disclose its fangs
I love you become words
Slapped on an ugly and surreal canvas
Bleeding for reality
And she fades to nothing more
Than a nuisance
Whose courtesy
Is simply too burdensome

*As a side note, I wrote the first half of this quite some time ago, in the midst of a relationship and the second half several months after its end.
