Crossroads Region Trip to Chicago - May 15, 2004

Junior, Cadette and Senior Troops from Crossroads Region traveled to Chicago,Illinois on May 15, 2004. Troops participating were from Stockton, IL; Davis/Dakota/Rock City, IL; Forreston, IL; Freeport, IL; Gratiot/South Wayne, WI; and Orangeville, IL.
Cool little blue line
Our trip started in Freeport. We car-pooled to Elgin, IL where we boarded the Metra to Chicago. We traveled from Elgin station to Union Station in Chicago. What a treat!
At Union Station be boarded the CTA bus #124. Wow, we took up the whole bus, I was glad we didn't stop to pick up anyone else! Enroute to Navy Pier, we were stopped at draw bridge for at least 10 minutes where several small sail boats cruised the river.
Are those bunny ears?
We arrived at Navy Pier with plenty of time to find our way to our first activity - boarding the Tall Ship Windy for a sail on Lake Michigan.
The girls took an active part. Hoist those sails!
Although some were lying down on the job! Right Gwen?
And some chose to enjoy the scenery and take pictures!
The leaders were just along for the ride (or would that be sail?) Hmmmmmmmmm
Except for Shawnda and Amy... we left them on the dock!
The captain and crew were fabulous! Unfortunately, we didn't get pictures of all the crew - sorry ladies!
It was sunny but very chilly due to those Chicago winds. They don't call it the Windy City for nothing! Brrrrrrr.........
We sailed right past the lighthouse, into the heart of Lake Michigan.
with a gorgeous view of the Chicago skyline behind us!
On our return trip to Navy Pier we had an awesome view of Navy Pier!
Don't worry! The Coast Guard was on hand if we needed assistance.
We are looking forward to another trip. Maybe aboard the Tall Ship Windy 2 which is being prepped for future sails.
After our sail, we toured Navy Pier, visited the shops, had a terrific lunch, and then watched "Ocean Wonderland" at the IMAX Theatre, before our return trip home. Fortunately we had no mishaps, so it was a very successful trip!

Thank you leaders for bringing your troops to this very special event!
