These 3 pictures do not have close ups. You will need a drill,
#64th bit
and drill holes where the rails are suppose to go both in the
front and back.
Trim the holes with a sharp knife to clean all excess off.
Take your handrails
and fashion them to fit the holes. This can be done with some
needle nose
pliers. 2 pairs will be needed for bending or shaping
especially after they have
been cut. Once they are set, take putty and fill your
holes, then insert the
handrails back into the holes.
You will have to install and paint the ladder rails and inside
handrails
before installing the outside handrails.
For locomotives that have plastic hand rails, you will have to
make your own
with the SD75M shows some of the things required to make custom made
handrails. They will be very similar to the pre-made shown below. Unlike
pre-made that come with the correct grab irons you will have to buy some
special grab iron set. For a SD 70 or 75 you should buy CW44-9. In the
4th picture you'll see it requires a very long grab iron and that's the set that
will have it in :)
The last 2 pictures show pre-made handrails for the AC4400. Place the
grab irons on before you install.
Insert the grab irons and handrails, space the grab irons, then squeeze
the top of the grab irons close on the handrail where you want them,
using a pair of needle nose pliers.
The paint in the 1st picture is not as dark as picture 3. Thus we will
have to mix some black into the green to get it to the desired shade
of green. Although, you can buy the desire shade. It's probably called
BNSF Heritage green. Yellow to red to get BNSF orange.
Here's the near finish product. There are other detail parts that need
to be added to this before it is done. Brake hoses, ditch lights, MTU
hoses and wires, snow plow, etc. Watch page 7 for detailing as we
add these items to the locomotive.
