George began playing the guitar in 1992 and is a completely self-taught guitarist. In 1994 he began studying music theory and composition at Solano Community College with Delbert Bump, Jazz Organist and Educator extraordinaire. George and his brother Steve began playing psychedelic rock and blues in their basement with close friend Neil Schultz. George first started his own swingin’ ska band in 1995 under the name FAT CITY with Steve on drums. The band was re-christened the irradicats in 1996, and played venues from Sacramento to Los Angeles. The first album, BLUESKA, was predominantly original compositions penned and arranged by George. He has also played in numerous local small ensemble groups over the years and recorded a solo Christmas album, "An Intimate Christmas", in 2001.
dave lawson
Dave Lawson is a classically trained musician whose interest and experience crosses both genre and instrument. After some early training on the violin and piano, Dave has established himself primarily as a guitarist. He earned his B.A. in music with an emphasis in classical guitar performance from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He performed for several years in Hollywood with the band Nonfiction before joining The Irradicats in 1999. Self-penned works on Dave’s three solo albums [Cold Water (1994), Slice (2001), and Fiction (2002)] earned positive reviews and radio airplay. His live performances have included tours of the United States, Canada, and Europe.
And his favorite dairy product is cheese.
Steve began playing the drums in 1992 and is a self-taught musician. Steve and brother George began playing together along with close friend Neil Schultz on bass in their basement. Steve and George came up with the idea of a bluesy ska band together and started playing as FAT CITY. After a name change to irradicats they were off, playing venues across California. Steve is currently playing drums in two other bands as well, MISSIONCREEP and Kinetic.
