Bata-kun no Uchi - "Chiyoruga"
I don't want to shoot the neko, but I must!

Title - "Chiyoruga"
Alternative title(s) - N/A
Genre(s) - Shooter action
Platform(s) - PC

"Chiyoruga" = Chiyo-chan of "Azumanga" + "Ikaruga". "Chiyoruga" (or "Tiyoruga" for some of you) is a Peach Parasol shooter w/ the touch of "Ikaruga" that lets you play as Chiyo-chan. You shoot down the neko and you try to get as many points as you can. The demo of this game came out earlier this year.

If you don't know how the game works, you have two types of powers to work with: white and black. With the white powers, you shoot white circles and you absorb any enemy fire that's white. With the black powers, you shoot red circles and you absorb any enemy fire that's black. To make battles a bit easier, whatever power you are holding, shoot the neko of the opposite color. Oh and if you absorb the matching enemy fire, you refill your ammo meter down below. You start with four lives and you lose one by touching a neko or not using the right powers as you absorb enemy fire.

Fun - 8

It's a shame to shoot down the neko. It is at times ridiculously hard. Despite all this, this is a pretty fun game. Sometimes, it feels a bit too eerie, but I have to live with it.

Life - 8

I think there's one level in the demo. Well, if you beat it, there's not much else that you can do. Like I said, it's fun, but as shooters are in general, you will wonder how long will you have fun with it.

Control - 10

Like go, it's easy to learn, but it's hard to master.

Audio - 10

Other than hearing Kaneda Tomoko-san, there's not much else for me to say. The songs are okay, but it needs more music. Maybe I'll get more of it later.

Art - 9

Chiyo-chan is Chiyo-chan and the neko are the neko. Maybe it's me, but I feel that the environment is not bright enough. It needs to feel more vivid.

Story - N/A

The neko have gone insane and it's up to Chiyo-chan to keep them under control. In other words, there's no story. That was just a fancy way of saying it.

Overall - 9

I may have not played "Ikaruga", but this is a pretty fun game. If you want a nostaligic shooter, pick this one up. You'll be glad that you did.

+

This is a wild shooter and a fun one too.

The presentation doesn't look right in some cases, and the difficulty will make you crazy at times.
