When I first watched this series, all I knew about it was that it got a lot of hype in Japan, people there called it “The modern 'Majo no Takkybin'” and not much else. That’s it. I never read the manga, nor did I know who created it.

"Mahtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto" is a J.C. Staff series and one of the first series to come out this year. Like I said, this series got a lot of attention in Japan. Recently, Pioneer picked this series up.

Kikuchi Yume is the daughter of a real famous family of mages. She spends her time off from school in Tokyo to get some training. Surprisingly, the boarding house’s manager is actually a guy, since she thought that it was an all-girl’s place. Now, Yume will have to go through various ups and downs to become a full-pledged mage.

Honestly, I’ve seen only the first episode before Pioneer picked this up. I know it’s not good to review it after one episode, but I’m doing this for kicks. That’s all. Hopefully, I will add more details in the future.

One question I've wondered in general is "What happens if you combine fantasy with reality?" "Mahtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto" is one way to answer the question. Is it a real good one? I suppose.

Fun - 7

This is easily a love or hate series because of the pacing. It definitely is not the fastest series out there. Other than that, it’s nice to see people’s reactions towards mages. If anything, "Mahtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto" is definitely one of the best series out there to blend fantasy with reality.

Life - 7

It’s too early to say if it’s a keeper. If I had to give an answer up to this point, I’d slowly give a “Yes” answer. Yeah, it’s barely a keeper.

Story - 8

You have a kid who wants to be mage herself. Not the fanciest story out there, but it’s a good story never the less.

Audio - 10

You have to love the music. Okay, so it doesn’t have the most memorable songs out there, but the songs are still great. The songs blend in with the environment, don’t you think? The voice actors are there, but for the most part, you will have no clue as to know who they are. Oh well.

Art - 9

If you can get past the somewhat uninspiring character designs, there is not much else you can complain about here. I love the atmosphere. I would have to say that it has to be one of the most beautiful sceneries ever in anime. I’m serious.

Overall - 8

Japan highly praised "Mahtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto" from the start and so far, I’d have to say that I’m pleased. Maybe if a few minor problems were fixed, it would be better. So, if you want a series that knows how to make fantasy go well with reality, watch "Mahtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto".

It's a nice mix of fantasy and reality and it has nice backgrounds with songs that blend in well.
