Ah yes, the old debate. Are subs better than dubs? Are dubs better than subs? Oh and before I forget, I will only refer to dubs as ones spoken in universal English for the most part.
The strong points of subs are that you keep the original dailogue and there is no need for editing. The former is great if you want your anime to have the authentic feeling or rather close to it. Am I correct?
Subs have two disadvantages. If you're not fast of a reader, you won't pick up an anime series right away. The other one is that you don't have the luxury of sitting back and relaxing.
As for dubs, well, there's not much for me to say. You can hear your anime as you do some other task. Also, in some cases, you can understand a series by hearing its dub.
Obviously, the dub requires editing of some sort. I'm not talking about material editing only. I'm talking about dialogue editing as well. You lose the meaning of some skits if they are translated.
So, what's the answer? Are subs better than dubs or is it the other way around? Both have ups and downs.

Does this give you a definite answer? No. Do I hate dubs? It depends on which dub we're talking about. Tagalog dubs in general are great, but English dubs have always been questionable. There are some series that have a fine English dub and there are others that have one that's flat out bad. Does it mean that I like at least one dub out there? Yeah.
Okay! There you have it. I'll see you again in my next rant.
