This is the tournament section. Here, I will list tournaments going on in the Bay Area in which I am a part of. There will be times I can't host a tournament, but I will mention them never the less. Well, here are the tournament rules, with special thanks going to Phuc Le/MrHappyface for letting me copy and paste his rules (even though I had to do the work of editing).
Rules: each tournament may be run under different rules, such as single elimination, double elimination, or round robin. The rules of each tournament will be determined by the host/hosts of that particular game. General rules which applies to all games are listed below.
1. Each battle against your opponent could be a duel where you have to win 2 of 3 matches, not rounds. It could also be either 3 of 5, 4 of 7 or even one match depending on the host/hosts, game, bracket and time constraints.
Going on further, if 2 players are fighting in a second match, then the winner of the first match must keep his character for the next match. The loser is allowed to pick a new character. The loser is also given the option to switch sides/joysticks for the next match. This continues until a player earns enough wins to advance to his next opponent. The loser will either then be demoted to the loser's bracket or eliminated completely from the contest.
2. If before the first match starts, both players wish to use the controls on the same side, a coin toss will be used to determine who plays which controls. In case a coin can't be found, a jankenpon showdown will be conducted instead.
Before I forget, other methods might be done. The winner of the coin toss/jankenpon match will get to choice which side/joystick to play on. The winner also gets the option to defer the choice to his/her opponent. The player who chooses his side must also choose his/her character first. The player who didn't get to choose his/her side is allowed to make his/her character selection after. The coin toss/jankenpon match (or whatever match you create) is optional.
3. If you need to sit on a chair to play at your best or if your controls seem to be malfunctioning, then you must inform the host/hosts of the game as early as possible. All previous losses will still count against you.
4. If you are not around when your turn comes up, we will skip your match & continue with the next one. We will continue on with the tournament until either you show up or your match starts to delay the tournament. If your match delays the tournament before you show up, even if the host or set of hosts mispronounced your name, then your opponent wins by default. In a single elimination tournament, that would mean you would be completely eliminated from the contest, even if you haven't played once. There will be no refunds for late arrivals.
Want an ugly scenario? Phuc once missed a doctor's appointment. Do you think he got a refund?
See that? Missing your turn is like missing your appointment. Keep this in mind.
5. There will be no re-entry for all games. Once you are completely eliminated from a tournament, you can not enter it again. So losing once in a single elimination tournament would eliminate you completely from the competition. Only in a double elimination or round robin tournament would you get a second chance.
6. There will be no draws. You and your opponent may not agree to split the prize money and quit. You and your opponent must battle against each other and complete the final. In the event of an actual tie, the host/hosts will determine how the tie-breaker will be played.
You better stay up. I might even ask a question like "Who is the seiy of Chise in 'Saikano'?" or any other question like that. So, don't just have your game part of your mind up. Don't worry. This only applies to the Fanime tournaments.
7. Each game may also have additional rules that will only apply to that specific game. Check with the host of that specific game for those rules.
8. Heckling a player as he is competing in a tournament will be permitted as long as it is done in a playful manner. Hostile heckling (or bullying), such as the ECC6 incident, will not be tolerated. We, the hosts, will define what is playful and what is hostile and the opinion of the harassed player will also be taken into consideration. Those who we determine to be bullying can be banned from not just the tournament, but the arcade/gathering as well. No refunds will be given.
9. Any tournament that does not recieve a minimum of 8 entrees will be cancelled. This will be the only exception for refunds.
10. The only characters you can't use are bosses.
The last rule I placed up is a rule by me, not by Phuc. Well, it's needed after all. Hee hee.
Should there be any other annoucements, I will mention them ahead of time. What they'll be, you'll have to wait and expect them. So, keep your ears and eyes open.
Phew! Okay. The list of tournaments is below.
