Elijah Estabrooks Jr. (II)

Elijah Estabrooks was born on 1727/28 in England while his parents were there visiting relatives. They all returned to Rhode Island in 1730.

His family moved to Sherburne, Mass. in 1733. After his fathers' death in 1740, his uncle Joseph Frost was his guardian. Elijah stayed in Sherburne until 1746.
He married Mary Hackett on November 14th, 1750 in Haverhill, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. They lived in East Haverhill, Mass. from 1750-1757. They moved to Boxford, Mass. in 1757.

Elijah served from 1758 to 1760 in Col. Prebble's Regiment of Provincials, and fought at Ticonderoga.

(He was sent to Halifax in 1759, and remained there until November 25, 1760; during this time he became sergeant.)
Elijah and Mary moved to Halifax and then to Cornwallis, Novia Scotia, Canada in 1763. They moved to Portland Point on the Saint John River in 1765.
In 1773, they bought 250 acres of land in Conway, near the mouth of the river. (An old census, dated August 1st, 1775, shows he had cleared 7 acres of land and built a log cabin).
In 1776, Elijah took part in an expedition against the British at Fort Cumberland. Elijah and Mary moved to Gagetown in 1777.
After Mary's death, Elijah married in 1778 in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada to Sarah Hammand.
(She had previously been married on September 24, 1764 in Marblehead, Mass. to James Oakes.) Elijah and Sarah moved to Cambridge (Waterbury) in 1787.
He was a farmer and a member of the Congregational Church. He died shortly before August 11th, 1796 at the home of his son John in Swan Creek, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada.
Elijah was buried at Mill Cove. (In 1932, the gravsite was on the farm of Jefferson Dykeman; the tombstone was no longer there).
Elijah and Mary had the following children:
  • Hannah Estabrooks - was born on August 14th, 1751 in Haverhill, Mass. She died on July 13th, 1837. She married Zebedee Ring.
  • Mollie (Mary) Estabrooks - was born on March 9th, 1753 in Haverhill, Mass. She died in 1789/1793. She married Samuel Hart.
  • Sarah Estabrooks, born May 25, 1755 in Haverhill, Massachusetts; died May 30, 1755 in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
  • Rev. Elijah Estabrooks, born May 16, 1756 in Haverhill, Massachusetts; died September 06, 1825 in Waterbury, New Brunswick, Canada.
  • Samuel Estabrooks, born December 06, 1757 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He died young.
  • Ebenezer Estabrooks, born August 28, 1759 in Boxford, Massachusetts; died Abt. 1851 in Jacksontown, Carleton Co.,New Brunswick, Canada.
  • Joseph Estabrooks, born October 02, 1762 in Cornwalis, Nova Scotia; died Abt. 1840 in Becaguimec, Carleton Co., New Brunswick, Canada.
  • Sarah Estabrooks, born October 10, 1764 in Cornwalis, Nova Scotia; died January 02, 1844. She married John Marsh.
  • Abigail Estabrooks, born December 28, 1766 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. She married William Harper.
  • John Estabrooks, born January 22, 1768 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; died February 02, 1861.
  • Deborah Estabrooks, born August 14, 1774 in West St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. She married Moses Clark Jr..

He died in July, 1796 in Swan Creek, Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada. He was buried in Garrison Graveyard, Jemseg, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada.
