Activities and Assignments
1. Crossword Puzzle - Use this to help you reinforce your understanding of the terms.
2. Select one song and evaluate it based on the elements you have studied. Use a word processor program to present your findings in the form of a one-page typed report. Be sure to include all of the following:
Name of the artist and the song title.
What is the style of the song?
What instruments are in the song? Describe the pitch and timbre of two of them.
What is the tempo? Is it fast or slow? Is there more than one tempo?
Describe the rhythm of the song. Is it simple or complicated?
What kind of vocal style is used in the song? (assuming it has vocals)
Analyze the lyrics, what if anything is this song about?
What is the arrangement of the song?
Are there any vocal harmonies? If so, describe them.
Include anything else you found interesting about the song, especially things you may have noticed on account of working with this material. But please, don't make these mistakes!
3. Evaluation - Your teacher will provide you with this when you complete the unit.
