John이 15세 되던 해 옆집에 살던 녀석이 자기네 밴드에서 베이스를 연주해주지 않겠느냐고 제의해왔다. 베이스도 바이올린과 같이 4현 악기이기 때문에 쉽게 배울 수 있을 거라 생각했지만 베이스는 바이올린과 전혀 다른 악기였다. 그렇지만 John은 빠른 속도로 베이스를 익혀나갔고, 그 이후로 바이올린에는 한번도 손대지 않았다.
John이 영향을 받은 아티스트로는 Chris Squire, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Yes, Iron Maiden 그리고 Rush등이다. 그는 Jane's Addiction, King's X, The Red Hot Chili Peppers뿐만 아니라 클래식이나 블루스도 즐겨 듣는다.
John은 현재 Long Island에 남아있는 유일한 멤버이며, 아내 Lisa와 함께 살고 있다. 그리고 일이 없을 때는 낚시, 운동, 독서를 즐긴다.
