A Song In My Heart...

This is a page for posting the lyrics to songs that I truly love and telling why I like the song. I've wanted to put up something like this for a long time and now I've finally found the time to do it. Read along, sing along, or whatever but enjoy!

Erin: This song is the first entry here because whenever I hear it it reminds me of someone who is the craziest person I've ever met. They are a person that I doubt I will ever forget- a true character. Take it away Billy!
You May Be Right
Words And Music By Billy Joel

Friday night I crashed your party
Saturday I said I'm sorry
Sunday came and trashed me out again
I was only having fun
Wasn't hurting anyone
And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change

I've been stranded in the combat zone
I walked through Bedford Stuy alone
Even rode my motorcycle in the rain
And you told me not to drive
But I made it home alive
So you said that only proves that I'm insane

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

Remember how I found you you there
Alone in your electric chair
I told you dirty jokes until you smiled
You were lonely for a man
I said take me as I am
'Cause you might enjoy some madness for a while

Now think of all the years you tried to
Find someone to satisfy you
I might be as crazy as you say
If I'm crazy then it's true
That it's all because of you
And you wouldn't want me any other way

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
It's too late to fight
It's too late to change me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right

Erin: This song is originally from Cowboy Bebop (the episode "Ballad of Fallen Angels" is one of my favorites and this song is featured in it as Spike is going to meet with Vicious in a church) and that is where I first heard it. Its a sad song but I love it and I hope you do too.
Rain
Words By Tim Jenson
Vocals by Steve Conte (Cowboy Bebop) and Mai Yamane (Future Blues, CD-Box)

I don't feel a thing
and I stopped remembering
The days are just like moments turned to hours

Mother used to say
if you want, you'll find a way
Bet mother never danced through fire shower

Walk in the rain, in the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Is it right or is it wrong
and is it here that I belong

I don't hear a sound
Silent faces in the ground
The quiet screams, but I refuse to listen

If there is a hell
I'm sure this is how it smells
Wish this were a dream, but no, it isn't

Walk in the rain, in the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Am I right or am I wrong
and is it here that I belong

Walk in the rain, in the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Why do I feel so alone
For some reason I think of home

Erin: Lets just say that this song has taken on a special meaning in my life and leave it at that.
One Of Us
Music by Tom Snow, lyrics by Jack Feldman
Performed by Chorus
From "The Lion King 2- Simba's Pride"

Deception
Disgrace
Evil as plain as the scar on his face

Deception
(An outrage!)
Disgrace
(For shame!)
He asked for trouble the moment he came

Deception
(An outrage!)
(He can't change his stripes)
Disgrace
(For shame!)
(You know these Outsider types)
He asked for trouble the moment he came
(See you later, agitator!)

Deception
(An outrage!)
(Just leave us alone!)
Disgrace
(For shame!)
(Traitor, go back with your own!)
He asked for trouble the moment he came
(See you later, agitator!)

Born in grief
Raised in hate
Helpless to defy his fate
Let him run
Let him live
But do not forget what we cannot forgive

And he is not one of us
He has never been one of us
He is not part of us
Not our kind

Someone once lied to us
Now we're not so blind
For we knew he would do what he's done
And we know that he'll never be one of us

He is not one of us

Deception
Disgrace
Deception
Disgrace
Deception

Erin: This is a song that I ran across one night while watching PBS. There was a program on called 'The Three Mo Tenors' and it had three African American tenors singing everything from gospel to showtunes. The program was wonderful and this song touched me on a very personal note. I think that it can mean different things to different people... That is the beauty of great music. It also doesn't hurt that I have seen the musical that it is from, "Ragtime." It reminds me, as a writer, I can fight by getting people to read my words and hear my thoughts. The pen (or the computer) is truly mightier than the sword! Enjoy!
Make Them Hear You

Music by Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Performed by the character Coalhouse
From the Broadway musical "Ragtime"

Go out and tell our story.
Let it echo far and wide.
Make them hear you,
Make them hear you.

How justice was our battle
And how justice was denied.
Make them hear you,
Make them hear you.

And say to those who blame us
For the way we chose to fight
That sometimes there are battles
That are more than black or white...
And I could not put down my sword
When justice was my right.
Make them hear you.
Go out and tell our story
To your daughters and your sons.
Make them hear you,
Make them hear you.

And tell them, in our struggle,
We were no the only ones.
Make them hear you,
Make them hear you.
Your sword can be a sermon
Or the power of the pen.
Teach every child to raise his voice
And then, my brothers, then
Will justice be demanded
By ten million righteous men.
Make them hear you.
When they hear you,
I'll be near you
Again.

Erin: Have you ever known someone who is so afraid of change that they do terrible things to try and fight it? I've known people like this... They destroy themselves in the end and take down as many people as they can with them. They do what they believe that they have to do to survive- even if it means hurting others because they are so fearful. They are to be pitied but avoided, in my opinion. These people tend to think that they control their own destiny and no one else matters- look out for #1. But don't forget- whatever goes around comes around. The following song pretty much sums up my feelings on this subject.
The Grand Design
Music by and lyrics by Michele Brourman/ Amanda McBroom
Performed by Nava and Chorus
From "Balto 2- Wolf Quest"

Nava (spoken): This world through which we wander,
Is wonderful and strange ;
The only truth we could really know,
Is that everthing will change.

(singing begins)

Like the rain that fills the ocean,
Like the storm that shakes the pine.
We are all a part of the grand design.

This has been our home forever!
This is where the clan belongs.
We were born beside this river,
And we filled the nights with songs. (Howling)
We must fight for what belongs to us,
What is yours and what is mine.
We are all masters of our own design.

The land no more belongs to us,
Than the eagle owns the sky.
We must fight for our survival,
If we don't we'll surely die (Yak howls)

We are one with what surrounds us,
Brothers to all we see.

Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya! (repeat 2 times)

We are wolves,
We take what we need.
To stay alive and free. (Howling)
The one thing we will surely learn,
As we walk the path of time.
No one can ever rise above...
We are wolves, the masters of!

...We are all a part of the grand design.
Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya! (repeat 7 times)

Erin: Events lately added meaning to this song for me. Old wounds leave their scars and don't always heal that well leaving a feeling of work still unfinished- dreams unfufilled. Living with the shadows of the past demanding to be resolved. I wanna go back to the start...
The Scientist
Music/ Lyrics by Coldplay
Performed by Coldplay
From the CD "A Rush To The Head"

Come up to meet ya, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need ya
And tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, and nurse me your questions
Oh lets go back to the start
Running in circles, coming in tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
And tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Ooooohhhhhhh [x4]
