Cairo - Giza

Some random shots of the pyramids.

The smooth limestone covering the top of this pyramid once covered the whole thing, as it did with the other pyramids. The pyramids were meant to be smooth and shiny, but over the years, thieves came and took bits and pieces away for their own purposes.

You probably knew this already, but it won't kill you to hear it again. Here's a closer view:

Heather and I almost didn't go near the doorway above, as we thought it had been built recently. It looks so new. We then passed as sign explaining that it was original with the pyramids. We couldn't believe it. Below is a picture of a hunter that was carved on the wall behind that statue on the right.

More scams for the tourists. You could hire these camels to ride on around the pyramids. We passed, despite being constantly pestered and hassled by the owners.

By the way, notice how close the city is to the pyramids.
