Here you will find information about the characters you'll encounter in the games.  The royal family of Daventry are the stars of the show, but on their adventures they encounter numerous other characters, both friendly and...not quite so.

The wise and very much loved King Graham.  Graham is the star of the most King's Quest games.  He first appeared in KQ1 as Sir Graham, the most noble and trusted knight in the employ of good King Edward.  He set out on a quest to retrieve the three lost treasures of Daventry.  When he returned victorious, King Edward rewarded him with the crown and the kingdom.  He next appears in KQ2 as he searches high and low for a bride fit to reign by his side.  He searches the land of Kolyma for the three magic keys that will unlock the three doors to an enchanted land where the beautiful maiden Valanice has been imprisoned in a quartz tower.  It is Graham whom Rosella must save in KQ4 with a magic fruit after he suffers a heart attack.  Finally, he appears in KQ5, as he journeys to the land of Serenia in search of his castle and family, stolen away by the evil wizard Mordack.  What a life this brave soul has led!  *g*

King Graham's lovely wife, Queen Valanice.  Originally from the land of Kolyma, Valanice was stolen away from her homeland by the jealous Hagatha and imprisoned in a quartz tower.  When King Graham saw a vision of her in the Magic Mirror, he was immediately captivated by her and set out to rescue her.  Therefore, she appears briefly in KQ2 when Graham reaches her tower.  She marries him and later gives birth to twins, Prince Alexander and Princess Rosella.  Her son is kidnapped by the wizard Manannan and her daughter is abducted as sacrifice to the three-headed dragon.  Alexander rescues them both, though.  In KQ7, Valanice follows Rosella into a magic pool and finds herself searching for her lost daughter while Rosella searches for the kingdom of Etheria.  This is really the only game in which Valanice has a substantial part.  She appears in all the others, but only briefly (like at Alexander's wedding in KQ6).  Poor Valanice.

One of a set of twins, Prince Alexander was kidnapped from his cradle by the wizard Manannan when he was very young.  He went by the name Gwydion until he was 18 years old, until he found out his true background...that he was the Prince of Daventry.  He escaped Manannan by turning him into a cat using Manannan's own spell book, and rescued his sister, Princess Rosella, from the three-headed dragon.  Alexander is the reason Mordack steals the castle of Daventry and it's inhabitants in KQ5 -- in revenge for what Alexander did to Manannan, who was Mordack's brother.  He meets the lovely Princess Cassima and is immediately captivated by her.  In KQ6, having been thinking about nothing but Cassima, Alexander sees her in the Magic Mirror and finally knows how to find her.  He travels to the Land of the Green Isles to see her, but winds up getting much more than he bargained for...what else would you expect him to do?

The last member of the royal family of Daventry is the lovely Princess Rosella.  When she was quite young, Rosella was abducted as a sacrifice to the terrible three-headed dragon that was rampaging around Daventry.  She was rescued by her brother, Prince Alexander.  Princess Rosella has two adventures of her own.  The first is KQ4, in which Rosella must travel to the land of Tamir, not only to find the magic fruit that will save her dying father, but to help the good fairy Genesta, who, without her talisman, will also die.  She saves Tamir from the persecution of the evil fairy Lolotte and saves her father, meeting the handsome Edgar along the way.  In KQ7, Queen Valanice decides it's high time Rosella was married.  Rosella has other ideas -- she sees a beautiful castle in a magic pool and jumps in, only to be stolen by King Otar Fenris III, ruler of the Vulcanix underground.  Now she must save the land of Etheria from the evil Malicia!

The wise and loved ruler of the Land of the Green Isles, King Caliphim.  Together with his wife, Queen Allaria and his daughter, Princess Cassima, he rules over the four islands and is loved by his people.  Princess Cassima was stolen away by the evil wizard Mordack when Caliphim refused to let the wizard marry his daughter.  Before Cassima was sent home by King Graham of Daventry, both Caliphim and Allaria were murdered in their beds by their "trusted" vizier, Abdul Alhazred.  While in the Land of the Green Isles, Prince Alexander of Daventry challenged the Lord of the Dead for their souls to be returned to the Land of the Living.  Alexander won, and all three of them returned.  It was Caliphim who stopped Cassima's wedding to Alhazred from going ahead.  Instead, he gave his daughter's hand in marriage to the handsome Prince Alexander.  And since he believes he's too old to rule anymore, he passes his kingdom to them.

King Caliphim's beautiful wife, Queen Allaria.  She has just one child, Princess Cassima, who inherited her beauty from her mother.  Cassima was stolen away from her home by the evil wizard Mordack, who wished to marry her.  When King Caliphim refused, Mordack took Cassima anyway.  While Cassima was being held captive, both Allaria and Caliphim were murdered in their beds by their once trusted vizier, Abdul Alhazred, who decided he wanted the crown for himself.  However, Allaria and Caliphim were both rescued by Prince Alexander during his visit to the Land of the Green Isles -- he challenged the Lord of the Dead to let them return to the Land of the Living.  And so it was that the King and Queen were granted a few more years of mortality.  Allaria recognises the false Cassima at her wedding to Alhazred, but she soon attends the real wedding of Cassima and Alexander.  The kingdom is passed down to them.

The lovely Princess Cassima is the daughter of King Caliphim and Queen Allaria of the Land of the Green Isles.  The evil wizard Mordack saw her during a visit to her castle, and immediately wished to marry her.  When King Caliphim naturally refused, Mordack stole Cassima away anyway, and put her to work as a scullery maid in his castle, saying he would not let her go until she agreed to marry him.  But the thought revolted her, so she continued to refuse him.  When thinking that all hope was gone that she'd ever be rescued, King Graham of Daventry arrived at Mordack's castle in search of his own castle and beloved family.  He returned her locket, which in turned earned him her trust.  She helped him escape Mordack's dungeon and was sent home.  Upon arriving home, she learned her parents had both died while she was away and was sequestered in mourning for them, until she was rescued by Prince Alexander.
