Job 42)
1 Then Job answered the LORD (Yahaveh), and said,
2 "I know that You can do every thing, and that no thought can be withheld from You. (God knows your mind. You can't hide your thoughts from God.)
3 You asked 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' (which Yahaveh asked in 38:1-3) therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. (Satan and Job's friends were raking him over the coals, but Job never lost faith that God would treat him fairly. Don't you ever let Satan or anyone else place the thought in your mind that God isn't fair. Father is righteous.)
4 Hear, I beseech You, and I will speak: I will demand of You, [You said]: 'Let him answer Me.'
5 I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear: but now my eye sees You.
6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes." ("The end of the Lord" [i.e. what Yehovah designed as the great lesson of this book] is at length reached. Cp. Jas. 5:11. The only thing Job needed to repent of was listening to his friends.)

7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, (i.e. ch. 38:1-41:34.)
the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite,
"My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for you have not spoken of Me the thing that is right (we have, therefore, an inspired record of what they said; but all they said was not inspired, and cannot be quoted as the Word of Yehovah), as My servant Job has. (I.e. in 42:1-6. Beware of "ratchet jaws". Beware of friends that false accuse you. Beware of friends that teach something other than God's Word. They will lead you astray from God.)
8 Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you:
for his face will I accept (face being put for the whole person): lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of Me the thing which is right, like My servant Job."
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them:

10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job (emphasizing recovery or deliverance from any trouble, as in Ps. 126:1,4,&c.), when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. (This blessing was included in "the end of the Lord: [Jas. 5:11.])
11 Then came there to him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the calamity that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a weight of money (as in Ge. 33:19. The Sept. reads "a piece of gold stamped with a lamb"), and every one an earring of gold.
12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima (= beautiful as the day, or as a dove); and the name of the second, Kezia (= fragrant as cassia [i.e. cinnamon]); and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. (= horn of beauty or plenty. Cp. v.15.)
15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.
17 So Job died, being old and satisfied with days.
In the Septuagint translation of the Old Testament into Greek, there is a long subscription. A similar subscription is found in the Arabic Version. It professes to be taken out of "the Syriac book"; but there is nothing to be found of it in the Syriac Version as published in Walton's Polyglot.
The last verse of Job (42:17), "And Job died, an old man, and satisfied days," reads on as follows:
"And it is written that he will rise up again with those whom the Lord raises up.
This man is described in the Syriac book as dwelling in the land of Ausis, on the borders of Idumea and Arabia; and his name before was Jobab; and having taken an Arabian wife, he begat a son whose name was Ennon. He himself was the son of his father Zara, a son of the sons of Esau, and of his mother Bosorrha, so that he was the fifth from Abraham. And these were the kings who reigned in Edom, which country he also ruled over. First Balak the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dennaba. After Balak, Jobab, who is called Job: and after him, Asom, who was governor out of the country of Thaeman; and after him Adad, the son of Barad, that destroyed Madiam in the plain of Moab; and the name of his city was Gethaim. And the friends that came to him were Eliphaz of the sons of Esau, king of the Thaemanites, Baldad sovereign of the Sauchaens, Sophar, king of the Minaeans".
