Luke 23)
1 And the whole crowd of them arose, and led Him to Pilate. (A mob can get ugly, especially when egged on.)
2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this fellow (as the result of their examination) agitating the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Messiah a King." (They are still lying. He is not guilty.)
3 And Pilate questioned Him, saying, "Are You the King (Pilate using the article, as though implying his belief) of the Jews?" (Pilot is sharp, he is not like the others) And He answered him and said, "You say it." (A Hebraism for a strong affirmation.)
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests (frauds, appointed by Romans, not God) and to the crowds, "I find no fault in this Man." (He heard what He said. Cp. Matt. 27:4.)
5 And they kept insisting, saying, "He instigates (Gr. anaseiô) the people, teaching throughout all Jewry (geographical designation - Judea), beginning from Galilee to this place."
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee [mentioned], he asked if the Man were a Galilaean.
7 And as soon as he got to know that He was of Herod's authority, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem at those days. (I.e. of the Feast - Passover)

8 And when Herod saw Jesus (Yahshua), he was exceeding glad: for he was wishing to see Him of a long season, on account of his hearing many things concerning Him; and he was hoping [all that long time] to have seen some sign accomplished by Him.
9 Then he questioned with Him in many words;
but He answered him nothing. (Prophecy being fulfilled - see Isaiah.)
10 And the chief priests and scribes had stood and vehemently accused Him. (They are after blood - Satan's biggest mistake.)
11 And Herod with his men of war treated Him with contempt, and mocked Him (see 22:63), and arrayed Him in a resplendent robe, (Purple = royalty. Cp. Acts 10:30. Rev. 15:6.)
and sent Him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod became friends with one another: for before they were at enmity with reference to themselves.

13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as One That turns away the people: and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, have found no fault in this Man touching those things whereof you accuse Him: (In a nice way he is saying, "you are a bunch of liars". He was a good judge. Pilot looked Him over good. It is written in man's history, the best description of Christ's physical makeup was left by Pontius Pilot, in a record to as how He looked, and how He handled Himself.)
15 Nor even Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death has been done to Him. (Herod didn't find anything wrong either.)
16 I will therefore chastise Him (whip. cp. Isa. 53:5), and release Him." (Probably with his own hands [cp. v. 22. Matt. 27:26.Mark 15:15] instead of crucifying Him; with a view of releasing Him.)
17 (For of necessity he must release one to them a the feast.) (To keep peace before the people, a Roman rule.)
18 And they cried out all together (or in mass), saying, "Away with this Man, and release unto us Barabbas:" (He was a murderer. Barabbas = son of a [distinguished] father. Which father? Answer - Cain, the 1st murderer.)
19 (Who on account of a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder (cp. Acts 3:14), had been cast into prison.) (So here we have the Son of God - vs. - a son of Satan.)
20 Pilate therefore, wishing to release Jesus, addressed them. (He's trying hard, he knows.)
21 But they kept shouting, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him." (Mob rule. See Ezek. 28.)
22 And he spoke to them the third time, "Why, what evil has He done? I have found no cause of death in Him: I will therefore chastise Him, and let Him go." (He was sent to keep the peace, but his patience was wearing thin.)
23 And they were urgent with loud voices, requiring that He might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests had power to bear down [Pilate's remonstrance]. ("Religious" community screaming out for blood. Watch religion carefully. Father wants you to know your enemy. Kenites had slipped in and amongst the Elders. You can put a few implants into a crowd with one thing in mind, and they can excite that mob whereby the whole mob will start screaming it in a certain pitch of voice. The Kenites are experts at it - compare crowd when Hitler was alive.)
24 And Pilate pronounced sentence that their request should be carried out. (See Psalm 22.)
25 And he released to them him that for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their desire.

26 And as they led Him away (cp. Matt. 27:31-34. Mark 15:20-23), they laid hold upon one Simon (cp. Acts 16:19; 17;19; 18:17; 21:30-33), a Cyrenian, coming out of a field, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. (Begins the trip up to Golgatha [= the skull], Calvary, the mount of crucifixion.)
(Verses 27-32 peculiar to Luke.) 27 And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, which also were beating their breasts and lamenting Him.
28 But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem (not therefore the women from Galilee of vv.49,55), weep not over Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. (Generations to come. Even as He was climbing up the hill to be crucified, He was thinking of a generation of the time of generation of the Fig Tree, NOW!)
29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, 'Happy (cp. Matt. 5:3, and cp. 11:37. Hos. 9:12-16.) are the barren, and the wombs that did not bare, and the paps which never gave suck.' (See 21:23.)
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us;' and to the hills, 'Cover us.' (They know they have been deceived. They had listened to the traditions of men and not God's Word)
31 For if they are doing these things to the living wood (i.e. the Lord. See Isa. 54:1-5), what shall be done in the dry [wood]?" (I.e. the nation.)
32 And there were others also, two, evildoers, led with Him (the brigands were brought later) to be put to death.
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him,
and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the one on the left.

34 Then said Jesus, "Father (Gr. Pater), forgive them; for they know not what they are doing." (The last of 8 recorded occasions of prayer in Luke. See 3:21, and cp. Matt. 27:46 for the last "seven words" on the cross. Cp. Isa. 53:12)
And they parted His raiment, and cast lots. (See Ps. 22.)
35 And the people stood looking on (or gazing at). And the rulers also with them were mocking Him (i.e. turning their noses up at Him), saying, "This fellow saved others; let Him save Himself, if He be Messiah, the chosen of God." (This coming from the "religious" community!)
36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming up close to Him, and offering Him vinegar, (Poor man's wine. See Matt. 27:33,48.)
37 And saying, "If you be the king of the Jews, save Yourself.
38 And a superscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. (Not the same as in Matthew and John.)
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged kept on railing on Him, saying, "If You be Christ (or, "Savior"), save Yourself alive this day, and us also." (He picked up on it even though Christ never claimed it.)
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of what we did: but this Man has done nothing amiss." (He knew of His good deeds.)
42 And he said to Jesus, "My Lord, remember me when You come into (i.e. into possession of) Your kingdom." (This one thief said, “Lord remember me, a sinner, when you come into your kingdom.” That is repentance.)
43 And Jesus said to him, "Verily I say to you today (see chapter 16) shall you be with Me in the paradise." (I.e. the one well known to Scripture. See Ex. 2:5. To be absent from the flesh is to be present with the Lord. That paradise for the repentant one is at the throne one God. No ins, no outs, and I don’t care today about what language you wish to interpret it or translated it to, or transliterate it. It only has one meaning and that’s “TODAY”. So that thief did not go wherever they threw his remains, his fleshly remains. Man can not determine what happens to the soul only God. Therefore our Father, through Christ, would make this statement, “Fear not those that can kill your flesh, but He that can kill your soul.” Only God can do that. So Jesus, Himself, taught that the souls of people do not go into a hole in the ground, but quiet to the contrary, they return to the Father. See Mark 9:43)

44 And it was about the sixth hour (i.e. noon), and there came to be a darkness over all the and until the ninth hour (3 p.m.).
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil (see Lev. 4:6. Matt. 27:51) of the Temple (see Matt. 28:16.) was rent in the midst. (The veil was thick from top to bottom. The meaning of this event is that after the crucifixion ANYONE can come before the presence of God, You don't have to be a high priest to enter the presence of God, the presence of the Son, Christ Jesus, or the presence of the Holy Spirit. It was opened to all! To approach the King, the price had been paid,and was paid at Calvary.)
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, "Father, into Your hands I commit (or entrust. See Ps. 31:5. Acts 7:59. 1 Pet. 2:23) My spirit:" and having said thus ("it is finished". See Ps. 22), He gave up the spirit. (Expired, or breathed [His last].)
47 Now when the centurion saw what took place (cp. Matt. 27:51-56. Matt. 15:39-54), he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous Man." (He was innocent.)
48 And all the crowds that came together to that sight, beholding the things which took place, beating their breasts (a sign of remorse), and turned back. (The women "stood".).
49 But (marking the contrast between the people and the women) all that knew Him, and the women that followed with Him from Galilee, continued standing afar off (the crowds turned back), looking on these things. (They, the women, did not leave.)

50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph (Mary's uncle - kinsman redeemer), a counselor (a member of the Sanhedrin); and he was a good man, and a just:
51 (The same had not voted with the counsel and deed from them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of Judah: who himself also waited for the kingdom of God. (He was a Christian.)
52 This man went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. (It was his right by law.)
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, (showing he was a rich man. Cp. Matt. 27:57. Mark 14:51; 15:46.)
and laid it in a tomb that was hewn in a rock, wherein never man before was laid. (Isa. 53:89.)
54 And that day was the preparation, and the [high] sabbath (Passover) drew on.
55 And the women also, which were come with Him out of Galilee, followed after, (Eye-witnesses.)
and beheld the tomb, and how His body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; (These had to be bought between the 2 sabbaths.)
and rested (from labor) the sabbath day according to the commandment. (Lev. 23:4. They followed the Law to the letter. )
