Luke 24)
But upon the first day of the week (our Saturday sunset to Sunday sunset), very early in the morning (lit. at deep dawn. Cp. John 20:1), they came upon the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. (They were not alone. Not some story made up.)
And they found the stone (it was a huge stone) rolled away from the tomb. (See the question they had asked in Mark 16:3.)
(I this Chapter, God closed the eyes [or minds] of certain of those that followed Christ so that they wouldn't recognize Him. It was strictly for you! The generation of the parable of the Fig Tree. To cause you to sharpen up and be alert and not to fall asleep on your watch. To observe the signs and the symptoms of the consummation of these last days, this earth age.)
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus (Kurios Yahshua. The 1st occ. of this full expression. Rightly found in this connection. It is a prelude to 40 occ. in the Epistles. He was gone. He had risen).
And it came to pass, in being as they were much perplexed concerning this,
behold, two men (Divine input, they were from another dimension, in their young spiritual bodies which never age) stood by them in flashing as lightning splendid raiment:
And becoming filled with fear, and bowed down their faces to the earth (the women), they said to them, "Why seek you the living One among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember (the true messenger of the Lord recalls His words. Cp. v.8) how He spoke to you when He was yet in Galilee, (He told you exactly what was going to happen. How soon people forget!)
Saying, 'The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' "
And they remembered His words, (Finally, can you?)
And returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. (More han the eleven. Why had they slipped away?)
It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna (on of Herod's chief's wives), and Mary the mother of James (James "the less"), and the rest of the other women that were with them,
which told these things to the apostles.
And their words seemed in their sight like silly nonsense (Gr. lêros, a medical term for delirium), and they disbelieved them.
Then arose Peter, and ran to the tomb (notice the 6 [man and Satan's number] things Peter did here, "arose", "ran", "stooped", "beheld", "departed", "wondered"; and the one thing he did not do, "believed"); and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves (important evidence in view of Matt. 28:12-15), and went away to his own [house] wondering what had come to pass.

And, behold, two of them (not apostles) were going in that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. ("Emmaus" means "warm baths" in the Greek language. This was 7 1/2 miles away. They were feeling a little stressed out. They have lost hope. They have lost focus on what Christ told them.)
And they were conversing with one another concerning all these things which had happened.
And it came to pass, that, in their communing together and reasoned, Jesus Himself having drawn near, was walking with them. (They didn't recognize the Lord. Why? Divine intervention is at work for our benefit. Keep your eyes open.)
But their eyes were holden that they should not recognize Him. (Sight was kept from them. God did this.)
X Y 17. Question of the Lord. "What manner?" Z 18. Answer to Cleopas. Y 19-. Question of the Lord. "What things?" Z -19-27. Answer to Cleopas.
And He said to them, "What manner of communications are these that you exchange one to another, as you walk, and they stood still, sad in countenance? " (Salvation had been opened to all who would believe. Death had been defeated. And, they are sad?)
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopastros, answering said to Him, "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and who has not got to know the things which are come to pass in it in these days?" (Where have you been? Jesus had first hand knowledge what had come to pass in Jerusalem. He was right there for all of it. Many signs that were in prophecy had come to pass. There are some today that you see on television. You see them in other places as great things happen around the world. Do you recognize it when it comes to pass? Shows you how undiscerning man can be when wrapped up in his own problems.)
And He said to them, "What kind of things?" (Does God have a sense of humor? Christ is making a point and winking at us, leting us know how dumb humans can be.)
And they said to Him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet (see Acts 3:22) mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: (They had seen the miracles with their own eyes, but their eyes are blind at this point.)
And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the judgment of death, and have crucified Him. (And He was innocent. These disciples of Christ have lost hope. Don't you ever doubt the Word of God! You get a rope on His Word and hang on tight. His Word will come to pass exactly as it is written.)
But we were hoping that it had been He which was about to redeem Israel (in accordance with 2:38. Cp. Acts 1:6): and beside all this, today is the third day (why wouldn't it snap in place for them? The clue was given) from the time when these things were done. (They believed their hope was for naught. It had been 3 days and they thought He wasn't going to meet them as promised. They had no faith, or they wouldn't be going to warm baths instead of to Galilee.)
Yes, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the tomb;
And when they found not His body, they came, saying, that they had seen a vision of angels also, which said that He is living. (Things were coming to pass exactly a Christ had told them they would. They had reason to be very hopeful.)
And certain of them which were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but Him they saw not." (Jesus told them to meet Him in Galilee, not at the spa. They were looking for Him in the wrong place. They weren't listening to the words of the Lord. They still had doubt.)
And He said to them, "O dullards (Gr. anoêtos = without reflection, i.e. dull in your heart/mind, and slow in believing), and slow of heart to believe on all that the prophets have spoken: (Not some. The Judeans believed on the "glory", but not those of the "sufferings", and cast the Lord out, because thet thought He was not good enough for the world. Many today do the revers, and think that the world is not yet good enough for Him.)
Behooved it not the Messiah to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?" (This, in God's counsels, was to follow immediately on the suffering, had the nation repented. See Acts 3:18-26, and cp. 1 Pet. 1:11; 4:13; 5:1. Doubtless this was the subject of Acts 1:3. They had a multitude of Scriptures from the Old Testament telling of the crucifixion and glorification, and they are walking in doubt.)
And beginning from Moses (cp. Gen. 3:15; 22:18. Ex. 12. Lev. 16.Num. 21:9. Deut. 18:15Num. 24:17; 20:11) and from all the prophets, He interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself. (It was written. He gave them a Bible lesson. Cp. Gen. 29:10. Ps. 16:9; 22; 132:11. Dan. 9:24,27. Isa. 7:14; 9:6,7; 40:10,11; 50:6; 53:4,5. Jer. 23:5; 33:14,15. Ezek. 34:23. Mic. 5:2. Zech. 6:12; 9:9; 12:10; 13:7. Mal. 3:1; 4:2. See also Heb. 1:1. That's why we need to be familiar with prophecy, especially that which has not been fulfilled. It is like reading tomorrow's newspaper. Tie a rope to His Word, and hang on.)
And they drew near to the village, where they were going: and He made as though He would have gone further. (I.e. was going farther but for their constraint.)
But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day has declined." And He went in to tarry with them. (What a privilege!)
And it came to pass, in His reclining down to meat with them (He's in a transformed body), He took the bread (He took the part of the host), and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. (See Matt. 14:19.)
And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him; and He became invisible from them. (You don't know whether He is here, but know when you need help, He is near.)
And they said one to another, "Was not our heart burning in us, while He was talking with us in the way, and while He was interpreting to us the scriptures?"

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven crowded together (a little crowd), and them that were with them,
Saying, "The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon [Peter]." (He had risen, and was alive and with them.)
And they related what things were done in the way, and how He became known of them in the breaking of the bread.
And as they thus spoke, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, (He had been there all the time)

and saith unto them, "Peace [of mind] be unto you."
But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. (It seems that the human mind has the hardest time visualizing or understanding the Divine influence of our own Father, and of the Son. You can't afford to be terrified in this generation. It might be Satan and you should kick his butt!!!)
And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? and why do reasonings arise in your hearts? (They should be rejoicing!)
Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see Me have." (Spirit is only intellect.)
And when He had thus spoken, He showed them His hands and His feet.
And while they yet believed not from joy, and were wondering,
He said to them, "Have you here anything eatable?" (Our ancestors lived on angel's food. Both bodies have substance.)
And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish (think on the cypher - Son of God, Almighty Savior), and from an honeycomb (prophet's food).
And He took it, and did eat before them.

And He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you,
that all things must be fulfilled, which have been [and stand] written in the Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms (these are the 3 great divisions of the Hebrew Bible. See Matt. 5:17), concerning Me." (Christ is the one great subject of the whole Bible. Cp. Isa. 40:7. John 5:39. Acts 17:3. 1 John 5:20. All prophecies of Messiah's first advent had to be fulfilled just as it was written of Him. The prophecy of Messiah's second advent will come to pass, as well. Have you read the prophecy?)
Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (For this important truth, see Matt. 11:27; 13:11; 16:17. John 16:13. Acts 16:14. 1 Cor. 2:14. Cp. Ps. 119:18. Did you know He could do that? It's called the unction of the Holy Spirit.)
And said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise out from among the dead (see Matt. 17:9) the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins (the new Covenant having been made, this now could be proclaimed. Cp. 1:17. Acts 2:38; 3:19:10:43; 13:38,39. Heb. 9:22) should be proclaimed on (the strength, or foundation of) His name to all the nations (all the ethic people. opens the door to Salvation in His name to everyone), beginning from Jerusalem. (Cp. Isa. 2:3. Mic. 4:2. Cp. Acts 1:8. This was done by Peter Acts 1-12. The Crucifixion was written of a long time before it came to pass (Psalm 22). Through the crucifixion God's salvation became available to all, including the Gentiles.)
And ye are witness-bearers of these things. (Cp. Acts 1:8; 2:32; 3:15; 4:33; 5:30-32, &c. Many of you help brings the witness and the testimony of God's Word to the world, as the disciples did. You don't have to memorize the Bible. Just be familiar with God's overall plan, and share Father's Word with others.)
And, behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: (The Comforter, i.e. the gift of pneuma hagion = the Holy Spirit. According to Joel 2:28. Ats 2:17,18. See Isa. 44:3. Ezek. 36:26)
but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high." (This defines the meaning of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 1:4,5. Through the Holy Spirit, you have power from on high at your disposal. Do you utilize that power?)

and He lifted up His hands, and blessed them.
And it came to pass, while (i.e. in the act) He blessed them,
He stood apart from them, and carried up into heaven. (He ascended from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:11-12). That is where Jesus will return as well.)
And they having worshiped Him,
and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
And were continually in the Temple courts (see Matt. 23:16. Not offering or eating of the sacrifices there, but at home.See Acts 1:14; 2:46; 3:1; 5:42.), praising and blessing God. Amen. (Yes, Jesus ascended to heaven; however, He left His Spirit, the Holy Spirit with us. You want to take the power on high very seriously. Luke ends his Gospel, and commences the Acts with Ascension.)
