(David's Son and David's Lord [Matt. 22:41-45]. "The root and the offspring of David" [Rev. 22":18]. David "being a prophet and knowing...spoke of". These 3 Psalms [22,23,24] relate to the sufferings and the glory of "the Man Christ Jesus". 22 = The Good Shepherd on Earth, in Death [John 10:11]. 23 = The Great Shepherd in Heaven, by Resurrection [Heb. 13:20]. 24 = The Chief Shepherd, coming in His Glory to earth and Zion, again [1 Pet. 5:4. Rev. 19]. Ps. 22 is Christ as the sin offering; Ps. 40 as the burnt offering; Ps. 69, as the trespass offering. This Psalm 22 was written 1,000 years before the fact. Let it sink into your mind for one and all times that Christ Jesus was not weak. God did not depart from Him. He was quoting this Psalm to teach you that God's word is true with no apologies. Event after event after event. Line after line. Precept after precept. Happening after happening.)
Psalm 22)
1 My God, my God (Heb. El. God as Almighty in relation to the creature; not Yahaveh, in covenant relation with His servant. Quoted in Matt. 27:46. Mark 15:34. Christ was quoting this Psalm while on the cross. It ends with "It is finished". The Lord uttered the whole of this Psalm, and the dying malefactor must have "heard", and believed [Rom. 10:17]. Cp. Luke 23:32, 40-42. The "kingdom" had been referred to by Christ in vss. 22-30), why have You forsaken me?
Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my lamentation? (Heb. shā'ag = spoken of a lion, and of thunder.)
2 O my God (Elohim), I cry in the day time, but You answer not;
And in the night season, and are not silent. (They were driving David and hunting him as Satan does to all of God's children.)
3 And yet You (cp. v. 9 & 19. Note the emphasis) are holy, (See Ex. 3:5. Here = the Divine attribute.)
O You that inhabit the praises (put for the Sanctuary, where the praises were offered) of Israel.
4 Our fathers confided in You:
They trusted, and You did deliver them. (He parted the Red Sea.)
5 They cried to You, and were delivered:
They trusted in You, and were not confounded. (Not disgraced or shamed.)
6 But I am a worm (Heb. tōlā', not the ordinary word for "worm", but the crimson coccus from which the scarlet dye was obtained. Hence rendered "scarlet" in Ex. 25:4; 26:1,&c. See Josh. 2:18, and Ex. 12:13. Jacob, so called Isa. 41:14. Christ thus took the lowest place of His People), and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised of the People. (Place of degradation. Cp. Isa. 53:3.)

7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
They open the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8 "He devolved all on the LORD that He would deliver him:
Let Him deliver him, seeing He delighted in him." (God documenting to you He was even controlling the chief priest. This is Irony. Quoted in Matt. 27:43. Mark 15:29. Luke 23:35.)
9 But You are He that took me out of the womb: (Almighty God directing the only Begotten.)
You did cause me trust (or confide) when I was upon my mother's breasts.
10 I was cast upon You from the womb:
You are my God from my mother's belly.
11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near;
For there is none to help. (Cp. 69:20. He was alone in this wondrous work. Everyone had deserted Him except the few on the grassy knoll.)
12 Many bulls have compassed me: (The enemy.)
Strong bulls of Bashan (noted for huge stock) have beset me round.
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, (Their words against Him.)
As a ravening and a roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint:
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me.
15 My strength is dried up (cp. John 19:28) like a potsherd;
And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;
And You have brought me into the dust of death. (At the close of the day.)
16 For dogs (put for "enemies") have compassed me:
The congregation of the breakers up have enclosed me:
As a lion [they break up] (see John 19:37) my hands and my feet. (Down to the last detail.)
17 I may count all my bones: (the whole description applies to death by crucifixion only.)
They look for and see me.
18 They part my garments among them,
And cast lots upon my vesture. (Quoted in Matt. 27:35. Mark 15:24. Luke 23:34. John 19:24)
19 But be not You far from me, O LORD:
O my strength, haste You to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword;
My only one (see Deut. 6:4 = my one own priceless possession; put for "my life", answering to "my soul" in the preceding line) from the power (paw put for the power exercised by it) of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion's (see v.16) mouth:
Yes You have answered me [and delivered me] from the horns of the wild ox. (See the bulls of v.12)
22 I will declare (These are Christ's words in Resurrection) You (put for the Person and all His attributes) to my brethren: (Cp. John 20:17.)
In the midst of the assembly (in its military sense) will I praise You. (See Heb. 3:12-14. No accident.)

23 You (i.e. the Gentiles of 18:49; 117:1; Deut. 32:43. Isa. 11:1,10) that stand in awe of the LORD, praise Him;
All you the seed of Jacob, glorify Him;
And revere (or love, referring to Israel) Him, all you the seed of Israel.
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the humiliation of the patient One; (He doesn't get any pleasure from people hurting.)
Neither has He hid His face from him;
But when he cried to Him, He heard.
(Note there is a Parenthesis of the present Dispensation. In the 1st earth age 1/3 of God's children followed Satan, and in destroying the 1st earth age, He was able to cause each soul to be born of woman, from the womb, innocent as a new born babe, to make his or her mind up as to whether they would love God or Satan.)
25 My praise shall be of You in the great assembly:
I will pay my vows before them that love Him.
26 The patient (or wronged ones) shall eat and be satisfied:
They shall praise the LORD that seek Him:
your heart (your mind - spirit is the intellect of your soul) shall live for ever.
27 All the ends of the earth (put for the people dwelling in the farthest regions) shall remember and turn to the LORD: (Your seed will come to remembrance on the 1st day of the millennium.)
And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before You.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD's:
And He is the governor among all the nations. (Cp. Matt. 6:13.)
29 All the great one upon earth shall eat and worship:
All they that go down to the dust shall bow before Him: (Cp. Phil. 2:9-11.)
Even He cannot keep alive his own soul. (see Matt. 27:42. Cp. Acts 1:8. You cannot work out your own salvation.)
30 A seed shall serve Him; (This is you in this generation. Cp. Isa. 53:10. See Luke 17:5-10)
It shall be recounted of the Lord to a generation that shall come. (The fig tree generation. (Learn the parable of the fig tree))
31 They shall come, and His righteousness shall be declared to a people that shall be born, (Umbilical cord to umbilical cord. Referring to the new birth as declared by Christ to Nicodemus [John 3:3-7]. Cp. Ezek. 25-27)
For It is finished. (Cp. John 19:30. Thus concluding the Psalm. Cp. the beginning. Not given to the chief Musician; the Psalm being for private study, and not public worship.)
