(A sequel to Psalm 61.)
Psalm 62)
1 Truly (or surely) I myself [wait in silence] (or is become silent) upon God:
From Him comes my salvation.
2 He truly is my rock and my salvation;
He is my high tower; I shall not be greatly moved.
3 How long will you imagine mischief (probably = assault, or rise) against a man?
You shall be slain all of you:
As a bowing wall shall you be, and as a tottering fence.
4 They only consult to cast him down from his dignity (or high rank. Royal rank is implied):
They delight in lies:
They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. (Connecting the enmity of his foes with his trust in God)
5 My soul, wait you [in silence] only upon God;
For my expectation is from Him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation:
He is my defense; I shall not be moved.
7 Upon God [depends] my salvation and my glory:
The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Confide in Him at all times; you people,
Pour out your heart before Him:
God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Connecting his trust in God with the nothingness of man.)
9 Truly men of low degree (sons of 'adam) are a breath, and men of high degree (sons of 'ish) are a lie:
To be laid in the balance,
They are together lighter than vanity.
10 Trust not in oppression,
And become not vain in robbery:
If riches increase, set not your heart (put for the affections connected with it) upon them.
11 God has spoken once;
Twice have I heard this; (Cp. Job 33:14; 40:5. Put for many times)
That strength belongs to God.
12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy (or grace):
For You render to every man according to his work. (Quoted in Matt. 16:27. Rom. 2:6. 1 Cor. 3:8. 2 Tim. 4:14. Rev. 2:23; 20:12,13; 22:12)
