(A loud cry ("roar") in danger or joy of David, which he sang to the Lord, concerning the matters of Cush a Benjamite.)

(Who it was is knot known: an evidence of genuineness. Benjamite - Hence probably an adherent or servant of Saul, and therefore long before Shimei and Absalom.)

964 B.C.
Psalm 7)

1 O LORD my God, in You do I flee for refuge:

Save me from all them that pursue me (refers probably to Saul), and deliver me:

2 Lest he (i.e. Cush) tear (refers to living prey) me like a lion,
Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 O LORD my God, If I have done this;
If there be iniquity in my hands; (Put for what is done by them.)
4 If I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me;

(Yea, I have rescued him that without cause is my adversary:)

5 Let the foe persecute my soul, and take me;
Yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth,
And lay my honor in the dust. Selah. (Connecting the treading down of v.5 with the rising up of Yehovah)

6 Arise, O LORD, in Your anger,
Lift up Yourself because of the rage of my enemies:
And awake for me to the judgment that You have commanded.
7 So shall the congregation of the peoples gather round You: (I.e. to hear Your judgments.)
For their sakes therefore return You on high.
8 The LORD shall judge the peoples:
Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity that is in me.
9 Oh let the lawlessness of the lawless come to an end; but establish the just:
For the righteous God tries the hearts and reins.

10 My shield (see 6:12) is of God,
Which saves the upright in heart.
11 God judges the righteous,
And GOD is angry with the wicked every day.
12 If he turn not, He (i.e. God) will whet His sword;
He has bent His bow, and made it ready.
13 He has also prepared for him the instruments of death;
He will ordains His arrows against the persecutors.
14 Behold, he will travails with iniquity,
And has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
15 He made a pit, and dug it,
And is fallen into the ditch which he made.
16 His mischief shall return upon his own head,
And his violent dealing shall come down upon his own head. (Especially the smooth skull. Put for the whole person, for emphasis)
17 I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness:
And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. (Elyon)

(To the chief Musician relating to the Feast of Tabernacles.)
(For which it was suited because it commemorated safe dwelling after deliverance.)
