(In this chapter Paul gets into 3 earth ages which many don't understand)
Romans 9)
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, (The Word of God will back up everything He says)
That I have great sorrows and continual pangs in my heart. (For you.)
(For I used to wish that myself were accursed (see Acts 23:14) from the Christ) for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: (He'd like to take your place)
Whose are Israelites; to whom pertains the adoption (see 8:15), and the glory, and the covenants (see Matt. 26:28), and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Whose are the fathers (the 12 patriarchs),
and of whom is Christ as to the flesh (Christ came through that generation, and through adoption also. whom soever will), who is over all (cp. John 17:2. 1 Cor. 15:27,28. Col. 1:16-19; 2:9), God blessed for ever. Amen.
L P 6. The word of God not having failed. Q g 7,8. Election of seed. Different mothers. h 9. The promise. Q g 10,11. Election of seed. Same mother. h 12. The prophecy. P 13. The word of God confirmed
Not as though the word (Gr. logos) of God has taken none effect (lit. fallen out = failed. 1 Cor. 13:8). For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: (God equalizes all things for those who love Him.)
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, "In Isaac shall your seed be called." (Isaac = laughter. The children of laughter, the children of promise. Gen. 21:7)
That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
For this is the word of promise, "At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son." (Gen. 18:14)
And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;
(For the children (the twins) being not yet born (they were in the womb), neither having done any good or evil, in order that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works, but of Him That calls;) (The way that God ordered it. God's in charge.)
It was said to her, "The greater (Esau) shall serve the less (Jacob)." (Gen. 25:23. Mal. 1:1-4)
As it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau have I hated." (Gen. 25. Deut. 21:15. God knew Esau's soul from the 1st earth age.)

What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. (See Luke 20:16)
For He said to Moses, "I will pity on whom I pity, and I will be compassionate on whom I will be compassionate."
So then it is not of him that wills (Isaac willed, Esau ran), nor of him that runs, but of God that show pity. (Father is in control. God does not do anything that inst warranted.)
For the scripture sad to Pharaoh (quoted from Ex. 9:16), "Even for this same purpose (lit. thing) have I raised you up, that I might show My power in you, and that My name might be declared throughout all the earth." (God hardened his heart to prove a point. See 8:30)
Therefore has He pity on whom He will have pity, and whom He will He harden. (Like He did with Pharaoh. See Acts 19:9. Cp. Ex. 4:21)
You will say then to me, "Why does He yet find fault? For who has resisted His will?" (Be careful how you question God.)
No [my man] but, who are you that replies against God? "Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, 'Why have you made me thus?" (Don't argue with God. He is always fair. You are born into what you deserve, but you have opportunity to work your way out of it. Its your boat, you sail it how you want.)
Has not the potter power of the clay (see John 9:6), of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor (flower pot), and another unto dishonor? (Not shame, but lack of honor. Chamber pot. See Ezek 18)
What if God, willing to show His wrath, and to make His power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fitted to perdition: (As in John 17:12. God made them up for this purpose. 2 Pet. 3:7,8.)
And that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared (fit up in advance.) unto glory,
Us whom He has called (foreordained), not of Israel only, but of the Gentiles also? (Pharaoh and Cyrus were Gentiles)
As He said also in Hosea (= salvation), "I will call them My people (see Acts 2:47. Ami = people), which were not My people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. (Quoted from Hos. 2:23. Cp. 1 Pet. 2:10)
And it shall be, that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people; there shall they be called the children of the living God." (Quoted from Hos. 1:9,10. A lot of people don't know who they are - Children of the promise, destined.)
Isaiah also cried over Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved: (Isa. 10:22. Cp. 11:6)
For He will close the account, and cut it short in righteousness (7 years to 5 months, Rev. 9:5): because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth." (Quoted from Isa. 10:22,23)
And as Isaiah said before, "If not the Lord of Sabaoth (Hosts. See 1 Sam. 1:11. Quoted from Isa. 1:9) had left us a seed (see Acts 2:27), we had been as Sodom, and been made like unto Gomorrah."
O¹ l 30. With the believer, no running or willing. m 31,32-. With the runner or willer, no believing. m -32,33-. With the runner or willer, only stumbling. l -35. With the believer, no stumbling.
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, obtained righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. (This is, on faith-principle, as in 1:17. The law didn't save them, faith in law of forgiveness, repentance did, righteousness.)
But Israel, which followed after a law of righteousness, not attained to the law of righteousness. (See Luke 11:20)
What can we say then? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.
For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone; (Yahshua, Jesus. People will stumble thinking antichrist is the true Christ because of false "rapture" taught)
and whosoever believes on him shall not be put to shame."
As it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling-stone and rock of offense: (See 1 Cor. 1:23)
