Dream Man - Chapter 10

Kevin and Laura just held each other for a while. Laura sighed as Kevin caressed her arm. She had her head on his chest and she could hear his heart beating. Neither of them wanted the moment to end but they knew they had to get going soon.

Both of them got up to get dressed. Laura went to use the bathroom and blew Kevin a kiss as she left the room. Kevin smiled at her and did likewise. He decided to get up and put himself back together. He was still so very taken with Laura, and so happy he got to show her what he felt for her. As he got dressed he thought of a couple last minute things he needed to do before they boarded the tour bus. Kevin searched a drawer in Laura's nightstand for a pen and paper to jot down everything so he wouldn't forget. He found a notepad. Just as he picked it up out of the drawer, a picture fell out. Hmmm, what's this? he thought as he picked it up off the floor. It was a picture of Laura with a man, a man whom Laura seemed to look very happy with. Kevin sighed as he looked at her with this man. Who is he? he thought, and what did he mean to her, or DOES he mean? Kevin then remembered that Laura said she was single, and he knew of no reason she would have to lie to him. He then shrugged it off and decided to ask her about it at another time. Kevin put the picture back inside the notepad and put it back in the drawer. Just then Laura returned to the room.

Laura walked over to Kevin and stood in front of him as he sat on the edge of her bed. She bent down and kissed him a soft sweet kiss, then embraced him and pulled him close to her. He inhaled her perfume and sighed. She sighed almost at the same time as he did. Just then the phone rang. "Damn it!" Laura chuckled as she grabbed the phone. Kevin chimed in. "Tell whoever it is that we don't want or need anything they're selling!" Laura laughed and playfully shoved him as she picked up the phone.

"Hey, you guys done with that haircut yet?!" It was Brian, and he seemed anxious to get a move-on. "Yeah, we're on our way out the door right now," Laura responded. Just then Nick got on the phone. "So is he scalped?" he joked. Laura chuckled as she heard him yelp from Brian smacking him as he grabbed the phone back. "You'll have to excuse him, he's not had his medication today," Brian joked. Laura giggled as she said, "We'll be there in about a half hour. See ya in a bit!" She hung up the phone.

"Bri is gettin' ants in his pants, huh?" Kevin joked. Laura smiled at him. "I guess so. We should really get going anyway," she said. Kevin sighed. "Yeah, I suppose so. Let's get your car packed up."

Kevin and Laura started loading up a cart that was available in the building for the tenants' use. Laura looked one last time around her apartment as she was on her way out the door. Kevin sensed that she was feeling sad about leaving. "Don't worry, beautiful," he said. Laura melted when he called her that. "You're going to be OK," he continued as he hugged her close, then pushed the cart of luggage down the hallway to the elevator. When the elevator doors opened, he pushed them out the building to where Laura's car was parked on the street and loaded her car for her. She didn't have to lift a finger. Oh, what a sweetheart, she thought as he packed bag after bag into her car. When Kevin was finished, he sighed and stretched. "Well, I think we're set. Shall we get going?" he asked as he slowly started heading to his car. "Yeah, let's go now before I lose my nerve," Laura responded. Kevin stopped and turned to hug her. He kissed her tenderly on the lips. "See you when we get there!" Laura smiled at him as she got into her car and he got into his. Kevin soon drove off, and Laura followed.

Laura's heart was leaping for joy. God, I can't believe I'm doing this, what's happening, and especially what's happening with Kevin, Laura thought, I can't believe that he isn't snatched up already. I hope that ex-girlfriend of his knows what she gave up by not fighting harder for him. Laura turned on the radio and heard All I Have To Give playing. A smile arose on her face as she continued to follow Kevin to their destination.

Kevin pulled up to the place where they and Laura were to board the tour bus. Laura pulled up right behind him and shut off her car. She sighed before she got out. OK, it's still not too late to change your mind, she thought to herself. But just then she saw Kevin smile at her. Once again, she knew she had made the right decision.

"Christ, what took you guys so long? Ya almost missed the bus!" AJ joked. Kevin smiled as he thought about Laura cutting his hair, and especially making love to her. "HELLO??? Yoo-hoo? Kevin??" AJ said. Kevin snapped out of his daydream. "Yeah Bone, I know, but we're here so let's get going, OK?" he replied, still smiling. Brian was just walking up as Kevin turned to help unload Laura's things from her car. Brian couldn't believe the difference he saw in his cousin. "Must have been some haircut!" he said with a smile on his face. "C'mon Bri, it's pretty obvious that more happened this afternoon than just a haircut... which by the way looks great! Howie!" AJ called Howie over. "Check out Train's 'do. You're right, she IS good. Good call, my friend!" Howie smiled. "Yeah, I told ya so. I'm just glad we got her before someone else did." Howie was then watching Kevin and Laura as they interacted while unloading their cars--the casual glances, the playful shoves, the flirtatious smiles. Nick walked up and noticed as well. "Wow, they are sure getting along well," Nick said with a smile on his face. Howie agreed. "We better keep an eye on them kids," he joked. Brian agreed with a smile, "I think it's great. It's been a while since I seen Kev this happy. I think she's doing wonders for him." Brian's smile faded a bit as he added, "After what happened with Nicole, he needs to meet someone sweet like Laura to be there for him." They all nodded in agreement.

Nicole was Kevin's girlfriend for a long time. They met and dated all through high school, and were an item then. And Kevin loved her dearly. He was even going to propose to her! One night, though, he got a phone call that changed his life forever. Nicole had been in a car accident and was not expected to live. Kevin rushed to the hospital to be by her side. Nicole was in a coma for a couple more hours, and was on full life support. Her family made the toughest decision that ever had to be made. They decided to take Nicole off life support. She had surgery earlier in the day immediately following the accident and the doctors were unable to stop her internal bleeding. It was too late for Nicole and they had to accept that. So, with Kevin there, they shut off the machines that kept her clinging to life. Kevin had brought the engagement ring he had gotten for her, and placed it on her finger as the line on the heart monitor went flat. He held her hand and kissed it as she lay there motionless. Now it was about 7 years later, and Kevin never got serious about anyone again, that is, until now. "I just hope she can heal his heart, like it's needed healing for so long," Brian sighed.

The time arrived for boarding the tour bus. Laura took one last look around, took a deep breath, and boarded the bus. The guys followed after her. Laura found a place on a seat near the back where the Nintendo was. Of course Nick was already there. Kevin found her and sat down beside her. He kissed her cheek and he whispered in her ear, "This is it. This is the beginning--the beginning for US." Laura sighed as he put his arm around her and she fell asleep and didn't wake up until they reached their first destination.
