"A toast!" AJ said, getting everyone's attention by tapping on his glass with a fork. Once all eyes were on him, he continued. "I'd like to toast Brian and Leighanne on their recent engagement, and Laura and Kevin on their more recent engagement," he said, pausing for a few chuckles. AJ soon continued, "So I toast to new love, not so new love, and meeting new, interesting, and--" AJ paused to look at Whitney. "--beautiful people." Whitney smiled at AJ, and Patti and Nick smiled at each other too. Everyone tapped their glasses to each other's, sharing in AJ's toast. Nick and Patti moved closer together, and AJ put his arm around Whitney and kissed her on the forehead. Howie and Lisa kissed, as did Brian and Leighanne did too. Laura's eyes met Kevin's. He put his arm around her and leaned in close to her ear. "I love you, Laura," he said, kissing her neck just under her ear. Laura smiled and looked at him. "I love you too, Kevin--more than I can say."
The club was really hopping with activity tonight. Of course the guys drew some attention to themselves, as usual. But it wasn't too long before the commotion died down and everyone was able to enjoy themselves. Patti and Nick were sitting at a table talking, and noticeably comfortable with each other. AJ, Whitney, Howie, and Lisa all were out on the floor dancing up a storm. Brian, Leighanne, Kevin and Laura were soon going to join them after they finished their drinks.
"Now it's my turn to propose a toast!" Brian said, raising his glass. Everyone else followed suit. "Well, I can say for a fact that Kevin and I have got to be the luckiest guys in the world. We've got the most wonderful ladies in the world. So I toast love--that it's strong and long-lasting. Here's to dancing at each other's 50th Wedding Anniversary parties!" Everyone drank to the promise of long-lasting love. Kevin leaned down and kissed Laura passionately. Brian did the same, and led Leighanne out onto the dance floor, being met half way there by Patti and Nick. Kevin looked into Laura's eyes and smiled. I am the luckiest man alive, he thought as he took her hand and led her to the dance floor. Yep, Brian, we didn't do too bad for a couple guys from Kentucky...
After a few dance songs, the DJ slowed things down. Everyone coupled up as the song Crazy For You by Madonna played, a song from the 80's that Laura loved so much. Laura melted as Kevin took her into his arms and they moved to the music. Laura sang as they danced.
Laura's song was interrupted by a tap on her shoulder. It was Heather! "Oh my God! Heather... what are you doing here?" she asked, hugging her best friend. Heather smiled as she looked at her and looked at Kevin. "Well I came up here to see you, silly. I called your parents to find out if they knew where you were, because I couldn't get a hold of you according to the itinerary you left behind." Laura, Kevin and Heather made their way off the dance floor and sat down at a table. Heather continued. "So anyway they told me what happened so I had to come up and see you! When you weren't at the hotel, and couldn't find anyone there, I figured you went out, so I came here since it was closest to the hotel." Laura smiled at Heather. She didn't realize how much she missed her until she looked at her sitting before her now. "I'm so glad you're OK, Laura--I--I can't believe you almost died. I--" Heather stopped speaking. She couldn't believe what she saw.
"Laura... what's that on your finger?" Heather asked getting excited. "Oh, you like it?" Laura asked teasingly. "Oh my God, girl! You guys... You're..." Kevin finished for her. "Engaged. Yes we are!" he said with a kiss on Laura's cheek. "That's wonderful! Congratulations! That's just so great!" Heather said, giving Laura a hug. "Yeah, it is, thanks Heather," Laura said, smiling ear-to-ear. Just then Heather's boyfriend Bill walked up to them.
"Hey Bill, did you see that rock? Damn, Kevin's got good taste in jewelry." Heather turned to Kevin. "Maybe you could teach him a few things, Kevin, what do you say?" she joked. Bill was looking insulted, being sarcastic of course, and was fake-pouting. Heather stuck out her bottom lip. "Awwwww, honey, I'm sorry... you know I love you," she said sweetly. "Yeah, I know," Bill said, instantly "cheering up."
"So how's my apartment, Heather? Everything OK?" Heather smiled, "Never been better. You know I'd call you if I had any problems. Oh, yeah, I told Janet and Jennifer that I was coming to see you and they told me to say hi to you from them, and that you should call them sometime soon."
"Yeah, they sent me some flowers when they heard about my accident. I'm not sure who told them, but whatever. It was a nice gesture. It's nice to know they still are thinkin' about me," Laura said, making a mental note to call Janet and Jennifer within the next day or two. Just then Patti and Whitney motioned over to their table urging everyone to come back out and dance. "Well, shall we?" Kevin asked. Everyone nodded, smiled and headed out onto the dance floor.
About three hours passed. Laura and Kevin were getting tired, because they were awake early. Laura thought of this morning, when she and Kevin made love. She loved him so much, and just being near him was enough to lift her spirits. But being that intimate with him, sharing so much of herself with him--she was intoxicated by him, and Kevin was by her also. Kevin was also thinking of the morning as he yawned and remembered why he was so tired. But it's worth it--it's so worth it, he thought as he smiled at Laura. He took her arm and led her out to the car.
Laura and Kevin arrived in just a few short minutes back at the hotel. The elevator door opened and they entered. Kevin was already starting to kiss Laura as they rode up to their floor. "Kevin, stop that!" Laura said as she playfully pushed Kevin away. "Now you really don't want me to do that, now do you?" he asked her with a devilish look in his eyes. "No, I don't want you to, just wait until we get into our room, love." Laura's voice softened as Kevin was still kissing her neck. Laura moaned softly as he planted kisses up her neck and stopped at her ear to blow in it lightly. "Kev, please!" she said, just in time for the elevator doors to open. "Damn! Next time we need to get a suite on the top floor!" Kevin laughed as he and Laura walked off the elevator. They just happen to notice AJ shutting the door to Patti and Whitney's room, which meant that Patti had to be in Nick's room. "A-ha! Told ya they'd be gettin' some sweet lovin' tonight! That means you owe me a FULL body massage," Kevin said with a sexy smile on his face, reminding Laura of the little wager they had placed earlier at dinner. "Well, what are you waiting for then? Open that door!" Laura commanded. This is going to be one hell of a night! they both thought simultaneously, as Kevin closed the door behind them...
