"I assure you, nothing about Howie taking Misty to that dinner thing tomorrow bothers me!" Lisa stated. "And anyway, Howie and I aren't really dating that seriously--we've never said this was exclusive. I'm sure if things were the other way around, Howie would have urged me to take an old friend to something if he couldn't go, and he wouldn't be bothered in the least by it either. Just like me!" she finished. Laura sighed, sensing her twin's sincerity and determination. "Alright, if you say so, I believe you. I guess I just think you guys would make such a great couple, ya know?" Lisa smiled. "If it's meant to be, it'll happen. If it's not, then it won't. You know that better than anyone, Laura."
Laura sighed heavily as she remembered how things were with Mike, and then meeting and falling in love with Kevin. Things DO happen for a reason! she thought, as they pulled up to Laura's old styling salon.
"So, come on! Give us all the juicy details!" Jennifer urged. Janet smiled. "The woman barely walks in the door and you're already hounding her, Jen--geez! Good to see you Laura. We've sure missed you around here," she said, hugging Laura. "Well, I've missed you guys too. But it's definitely been one adventure after another, that's for sure," she said.
"That's an understatement if I've ever heard one!" Jen said. "First of all, you meet the Backstreet Boys and start working for them. Then you fall madly in love with Kevin Richardson, and he ends up showing about 30,000 people in Milwaukee how much he loves you. Then you almost die, and miraculously beat the odds and live, and now you're engaged to be married! Surrrrrre, it's been adventurous," she concluded, rolling her eyes sarcastically.
"Where was I when all this happened?!" Laura asked, rolling her eyes back at Jen. Lisa laughed as her sister continued her joking. "Wow, thanks so much for the recap. I don't know what I'd ever do without you," she continued, giving Jen a light punch in the arm. Laura sighed. "Seriously, it's been a trying last 6 months, that's for sure. But with Kevin, I know now that I can get through anything, and I do mean anything," she said, thinking of Kevin. She missed him so much when she wasn't with him, and this moment was no different. Jennifer and Janet smiled as they looked at Laura as she seemed to stare off at nothing, obviously deep in thought. Obviously thinking about Kevin.
"Damn, Laura, I can see it in your face--in your eyes. You've found him... you've found 'the one!'" Jen said, with Janet nodding her head in agreement. "I told you that you wouldn't regret taking this job, now didn't I?" she said, chuckling a bit. Laura chuckled too. "Well, if you're buttering me up so that I invite you to my wedding, y'all can stop! You know I want you both there," she said, then adding, "As a matter of fact, I want both of you to come up with the most fabulous hairstyle for me for the wedding. It's gotta be something spectacular, 'cuz I wanna blow Kevin away. I don't ever want him to forget this day!"
Lisa smiled at her sister, with Jen and Janet following suit. "If I know Kevin at all, you could be wearing sweats and he'd still think you were a vision. Don't worry, he'll never forget!" she said, as the ladies chatted more and more about Laura's wedding plans.
Laura was home, resting on the couch. It was later in the evening now, and Kevin was still at the studio with Brian and Howie, working on some more ideas for the new album they would soon be recording. Laura knew what she was getting into when she got involved with Kevin, but sometimes, even if it's for just a minute, she wished he was just a regular guy with a 9 to 5 job. But, then again, if he had that kind of job, would she have met him and fallen in love with him? Maybe, maybe not. She didn't care, though, because she would love him even if he were a garbage man. And he loved her. Her, of all people. Sometimes she still felt as if she didn't deserve him. Little did she know that he felt the same way sometimes too. But somehow, she and Kevin found each other, and they were happy together, and that's all that mattered now. Laura began to drift off to sleep as she daydreamed about Kevin, therefore not hearing him come home.
Kevin saw only a small lamp on in the living room and closed the door quietly. He knew Laura had been busy today, running errands and making more plans for their wedding. I can't believe I'm getting married, he thought, and to such a wonderful, beautiful woman. July can't come soon enough! Kevin walked softly through the apartment, making his way to the living room. He walked in to see Laura sleeping on the couch. He smiled as he leaned down to kiss her lightly on her forehead, trying not to wake her. His attempts were unsuccessful, though, as she opened her eyes.
"Ahhh, the love of my life," Laura said, sitting up as Kevin sat down next to her. "Yeah, just me. Were you expecting someone else? 'Cuz I can go, if you want," he said, leaning in to kiss her neck. "No, I'm sure you're the one I want," she said, as her breathing picked up from the sensuality of his kisses. "How's my favorite Backstreet Boy?" she giggled, winking at Kevin. He just smiled at her.
"Tired, actually," Kevin said, matter-of-factly. "But I'm satisfied. Bri, Howie and I got a lot accomplished tonight. When Nick and AJ get back from visiting Patti and Whitney, we'll be almost ready to record, there's just a few things that we need their opinions on yet, but we're sure that they'll love the ideas we've come up with. When you've worked with someone so long, it's easy enough to know what they like."
"I'm glad that things are coming together for you, love. The smoother things go, the faster you'll be done with the album and then WE can get married," Laura said, kissing Kevin's cheek, then sinking into his inviting arms. She felt so safe there, so wanted, so loved. She couldn't even remember what her life was like before Kevin, nor did she want to. No looking back, she thought, as she held Kevin tighter. Before she knew it, she fell asleep in his arms. This of course was not the first time she had done that, and she knew that it would be far from the last...
Morning came much too soon. Laura opened her eyes to find Kevin approaching her, carrying a tray with some breakfast for them. She smiled at him. "To what do I owe this?"
"Oh, nothing in particular, just you being the wonderful woman that you are," Kevin replied, kissing her as he sat down next to her. Laura loved to hear Kevin say things like that to her. She smiled and said, "Well, if I am wonderful, I owe it to you." Kevin smiled as he took a strawberry and fed it to Laura, and she did the same. For a split second, they just stared at each other, then laughed and kissed once again. They so loved just spending time with each other, and doing fun things for each other, like serving each other breakfast. They were definitely a match made in heaven.
As Kevin and Laura finished their breakfast, the telephone rang. "Hello?... Oh, hey Misty," Laura said as Kevin took their tray into the kitchen. Kevin soon returned to hear the end of Laura's and Misty's short conversation. "Yeah... yes... OK, that's fine with me... Uh-huh... OK, see you later then... Bye!" Laura hung up the phone. Kevin smiled. "What was that about?"
"That was Misty," Laura said. Kevin already was getting frustrated. He knew she loved to tease him about anything and everything whenever she got the chance. "Well, duhh, I figured that... what did she want?" he asked, as he wrapped his arms around her as he leaned in to kiss her neck.
"Well," Laura began, finding it hard to concentrate on talking while Kevin was caressing her neck with his sweet kisses. "Ummm, oh yeah. That was Misty--" Kevin chuckled as he interrupted her as he spoke in between kisses. "We covered that, beautiful," he said. "Well, chill, I'm getting to it," Laura laughed as she continued to talk and Kevin continued kissing her, trying his hardest to distract her. "Like I said, Misty called wanting to know if she could come over here later this afternoon, because it would work out best for Howie to pick her up here since she lives on the opposite side of the city, and they'd have to come back this way anyway." Laura let out a heavy sigh as Kevin continued to kiss her, now moving to the other side of her neck. "Uh-huh," he mumbled. Laura moaned a little bit before she continued.
"Well, I don't know how Lisa isn't going insane. I mean, Misty is gorgeous, and single. If I were Lisa, I'd be jealous. I don't care if she and Howie aren't dating exclusively. I'd be kickin' myself for even suggesting he take Misty." Kevin again mumbled under his breath as Laura tried to continue. "So, Lisa says-- I mean-- she claims-- she--" Laura couldn't take Kevin's sweet touches, kisses, and his breath on her neck any more. Laura tilted Kevin's face up to hers and kissed him full on the lips, as she ran her fingers through his hair. Works every time! Kevin thought slyly as he and Laura welcomed in the morning in their own way . . .
I need a coffee break. First page, please...
