"So, what does your boyfriend think of you taking this job?" Kevin tried to sound casual, but wasn't too successful at it. Laura pretended she didn't notice his curiousity.
"Well, if I had a boyfriend, he'd have to accept it because I do what I want to do. I don't answer to anyone but me!" Kevin smiled at Laura's answer. She smiled back at him. Again she couldn't help but notice just how amazing he looked. Laura was just expecting any minute to wake up to either Leah or Heather pinching her, trying to get her to wake up from this incredible dream. But this was no dream, this was reality, and she knew it. "That's probably for the best--that you're single," Kevin said in a very upbeat voice. "It's hard to carry on relationships when you're traveling around the world and back. I tried that for a while and it was just too stressful and it tore my girlfriend and I apart." Kevin glanced over to Laura as he said this, looking for a reaction to his indication that he, too, was single. And a reaction is what he got.
Laura half-smiled, trying not to look too happy, and casually asked, "Oh, so you're single too, huh?" She hoped she interpreted what he had just said correctly. "Yes I am," he stated. Laura's heart leaped. WOW! Kevin Richardson is available! This is too good to be true! she thought as she smiled at him.
Just then Kevin pulled up to Laura's apartment complex. Kevin shut off the car, got out and walked around to open the door for her to get out. Wow, what a gentleman! The last person to do that for me was-- She stopped her thought right there. Again she reminded herself to get Mike out of her head. Laura was having too good of a time to let him bring her down. Kevin sensed her distance. "Penny for your thoughts," he said, and looked at her as if to let her know that if she needed a shoulder, his was available. "Oh, I guess I'm just tired," she lied. "Anyway, at this hour, I'm not thinking much of anything," she joked. His face softened a bit as he turned to face her in front of the door. Damn, she's really pretty, he thought. "Are you OK going in the building by yourself?" Kevin was concerned, but Laura said, "Well, I feel pretty confident in this building's security system, but you are welcome to see me to my door if you wish." Laura smiled at Kevin. The truth was, she wanted him to come up. Of course, her flirting worked to her advantage as it had all night with him. "Sure, I'd be happy to walk you up." Kevin smiled back at her as she opened the front door to the building and they walked inside.
Kevin walked alongside Laura as they headed to the elevator. He wanted so very badly to put his arm around her, or grab her hand... do something to convey his interest in her to her. He started walking closer to her and thanked God that she lived somewhere with narrow hallways!
Just then they reached the elevator. Laura pressed the button and Kevin was standing beside her but a couple inches in back of her. She's got such beautiful hair, so long and soft--it probably smells amazing too! thought Kevin. He decided he needed to find out, so he started to lean forward, but just then the elevator door opened. Kevin snapped his body straight up quickly so she wouldn't notice what he was about to do. "Ladies first!" he said with that gorgeous smile. Laura flashed her best smile back and walked onto the elevator and pressed the 7. Kevin followed.
Kevin decided it was now or never. He reached over and put his arm up so that his hand was just resting on her shoulder. He felt Laura shiver under his touch. He tensed a bit and asked, "Ummm, is this ok? I mean I don't want to seem pushy..." Is he kidding?! Of course it's OK! It's more than "OK!" she thought. "No, that doesn't bother me, I guess I'm just a jumpy person," she replied calmly.
Just then the elevator door opened. Laura walked out first with Kevin just behind her, still with his hand on her shoulder. They had more room to move walking to Laura's apartment, and Kevin was soon walking beside her, now holding her hand so gently. She felt like she was floating rather than walking! When they reached her door, Laura turned to face Kevin. She felt her breath catch as she started to speak.
"Well I'm glad I accepted this job. It's going to be good for me. I'm so excited and flattered that Howie has enough faith in my abilities." Kevin just watched her lips move as he soaked in every word she said. Laura noticed this, and licked them slow and flirtatiously. She then continued, "Well, it's late now... I should really get some sleep." Kevin didn't want to go. He really wanted to come in, but he didn't want to rush things and scare her off. So he agreed and said, "Yes, it is late, I'll leave so you can go to sleep." Laura wanted him to come in too, but she was still scared because of what happened with Mike. She decided not to push it--to just take things one step at a time. "OK then," she said, "well, good night, and thank you for taking me home, Mr. Richardson." Laura smiled at him. Kevin smiled as he said, "My pleasure, Ms. Mitchell." He stepped a step or two back from her, still holding her hand, and leaned down and kissed it. Laura thought she was going to explode right there! His lips felt so warm on her skin... she couldn't deny it, she wanted him, and bad. She pulled away slowly, and said, "Goodnight, Kevin," and smiled one last time at him as she turned to enter her apartment. He watched her as she slowly closed her door. Kevin let out a sigh, smiled to himself, and started walking back out of the building.
Laura, on the other hand, felt herself tremble as she leaned back against her apartment door. Her breathing began to pick up pace when she realized that she just had one of the most wonderful nights of her life, and tonight was just the beginning.
Nah, I want to go back to the first page.
