It was pretty much the same scene as the night before. This time Howie was by the stereo. Howie looked up and saw Laura. He came over and gave her a big hug. "You know, we gotta stop running into each other like this," he joked. Laura smiled and replied, "Well, all the better to get used to me being around, right?" Brian chimed in. "Right!" He smiled. "It's good to see you again. I understand you're pretty much ready to hit the road, huh?" Brian asked.
"Yeah, I think so--I mean I hope so," Laura smiled. She then noticed Nick engrossed in another Nintendo game. "Hey, you gonna sit on that thing all night, Frack?" she asked him. Nick shut the game off and said, "OK, OK, I can take a hint." He had a cocky smirk on his face which faded to a gorgeous smile. "Hi again, Laura," he said as he approached her. She looked about the room. Kevin was nowhere to be found. She was just about ready to pout when she saw Kevin walk in from the kitchen. He was carrying 6 sodas, one for each of them. He stopped dead in his footsteps when he saw Laura had arrived, just as her heart skipped a beat when she saw him. But for the sake of wondering minds, she tried to act non-chalantly about seeing him again, so no one asked any questions about what happened on the way home last night.
"Laura!" Kevin said. "Hello again, Kevin," she replied, trying to sound as cool as possible. "Here, let me get a couple of those for you," she said. Kevin seemed appreciative for the help... and to see Laura again. She helped him give everyone a soda and then sat down on the loveseat. Kevin promptly sat down next to her.
Howie and AJ had thought that it would be good to have a very relaxing night tonight. They thought of perhaps going to rent a movie or 2 and just enjoying each other's company. No one, including Laura, had objections to that, even though Laura was thinking that she'd be even more content with spending time with Kevin and Kevin alone. There was still so much that she wanted to learn about this beautiful man. AJ and Howie asked everyone what types of movies everyone wanted. Laura was pleasantly surprised to hear Kevin agree with her choice of a romantic comedy. OK, just calm down, that doesn't mean anything, Laura thought. Howie then went to get his car keys and said that they were going to be back in a short while and left.
Everyone was just making small talk for a few minutes. Nick then spoke up. "Hey B-Rok, wanna play that game I just got today? It kicks ass!" Brian sighed and said sarcastically, "Oh, alright, let's do it!" Laura sat down on the couch in front of the television. She was trying to watch Nick and Brian play this game, but her attention kept shifting over to the loveseat where Kevin still sat. God, he looks even better tonight than he did last night, she thought as she caught his eye and he smiled at her. Uh-huh, this definitely is going to be the best job I've ever had.
Soon Kevin couldn't take being that far away from Laura anymore. He got up and walked over to the couch where Laura was sitting. "Is this seat taken?" he said as he smiled at her. She felt as though if her heart beat any faster it would have beat right out of her ribcage. Laura took a deep breath in to calm herself before replying, "No, please join me." She smiled back at him as he sat down. He spoke right away so not to feel awkward. "So, when are you going to give me that haircut I need?"
"Well, I could do it tomorrow afternoon before we leave, if that works for you," Laura said, hoping that it would work for him. Kevin smiled in agreement. "Yes, I do believe I'm free of prior engagements," he chuckled. "What time and where, Ms. Mitchell?" Again he gazed at her with those gorgeous green eyes. It was all Laura could do to choke out her response. "Ummmm... you could come over to my place, say around 2 PM? Then we can follow each other to the bus." Kevin nodded in agreement, put his hand on top of hers and said, "Sounds good. I'll look forward to it." Laura almost passed out because of his touch. All she could say was, "OK." Just then Howie and AJ returned from the video store.
"K, we got The Truman Show, and City of Angels. We haven't seen these yet. It's not easy for us to go to the theater and just catch a showing of a movie, but I'm sure you can comprehend that. Have you seen those ones, Laura?" AJ asked. "I've seen them both before, but don't worry, they are both good so I don't mind watching them again. It's cool with me," she said. Howie and AJ looked relieved. "OK, great!" Howie said. "Oh, and we got popcorn too," he added. Nick turned off the Nintendo system and he sat on the floor with his back leaning against the couch, while Brian got back on the couch on the opposite end of where AJ had already sat. Howie had dibbs on the chair, which left the loveseat for Laura and Kevin, which neither of them minded. Both of them wondered if fate had something to do with it. Howie was getting his VCR ready, and Laura offered to get a couple bowls for the popcorn and sodas for those that wanted another. Kevin jumped up quickly to offer some assistance. Laura smiled at his eagerness, and the two of them headed off to the kitchen. AJ noticed the undeniable attraction between the two of them. "Hey you guys, you think something happened last night? With Kev and Laura, I mean... ya notice how they keep staring at each other and where one goes, the other one follows?" Nick answered, "Yeah I noticed. I think it's great." Brian also spoke up too. "Well if she's anything like Leah, then Kev's sure got his eye on a great gal." They all nodded in agreement.
Everyone agreed to watch The Truman Show first. Nick ended up moving from the floor up to the couch by Brian and AJ, and Howie was still in the chair with his feet up. Kevin and Laura were, of course, "stuck" together on the loveseat. Laura was glad she watched a lot of movies, because she was concentrating more on watching Kevin than watching the movie. Kevin wasn't any better. He was stealing glances constantly, and they smiled at each other everytime they caught each other's eye. Because they were having such a fun time flirting, neither one of them realized the movie was over until Howie got up to put the other tape in the VCR. "Well that was a great movie," he said. Everyone agreed, even Kevin and Laura, even though they were so wrapped up in each other that for all they knew they were the only ones in the room.
"Hey let's take a break before we start the other movie." Howie said. Everyone got up and got more sodas and popcorn. Kevin asked Laura if she wanted anything more. "Thanks, I think I'll have another soda," she said in appreciation. Kevin smiled at her as he practically ran to the kitchen to get it for her, almost running AJ and Brian over in the process. They looked at each other for a second as if to say, "What was that all about?" before sitting down and talking to Laura.
"So Howie said that you were so nervous about meeting us," AJ said. "I never said I was nervous," she replied. "Well, with D, you don't necessarily have to say anything--he picks up on that kind of thing easily," Brian stated. "We all like ya, so you can relax," he joked. Laura smiled at him.
"Yeah," AJ interjected, "but it seems that one of us have taken a liking to you a bit more than the rest of us," he said with a smile and a wink at Brian. "Oh really? Who? I hadn't noticed," said Laura, trying to sound completely oblivious to all that was happening with Kevin. "Oh stop and tell us what happened when he took you home last night," AJ said. He like the rest of them were dying to know.
"Well, Mr.-Inquiring-Minds-Want-To-Know, we talked, and that's all you need to know," she concluded, pointing at them. "OK OK, I see how this is. OK, we'll find out sooner or later anyway," AJ joked. Laura gave him a playful shove and said, "OK, fine, you snoop all you want, but you'll never hear it from me! I don't kiss and tell."
"Oh, so there was a KISS!" AJ teased her. Brian chuckled as Laura play-punched AJ. "You guys, Kevin's coming back any second, so scoot!" AJ and Brian saluted her and said simultaneously, "Yes, Ma'am!" and marched back to the sofa. What some clowns! Laura thought. Just then as Laura predicted, Kevin as well as Nick and Howie, returned to the living room. Howie started City of Angels and everyone sat down, Kevin next to Laura once again. This time Howie had shut off most of the lights except for a small light in the corner of the room. Everyone relaxed as the previews finished and the movie began.
Everyone was really into the movie, even Kevin and Laura this time... well, as much as they could be anyway. Laura was still very much wrapped up in Kevin's presence, and he in hers. As the movie progressed, Kevin went from moving a bit closer to Laura, to holding her hand, and now he had his arm around her. Laura thought it was so endearing--he did the old "yawn and stretch" move you see on TV and in movies. Heehee, that's sweet, she thought as he did it. So there they were, sitting thisclose to each other, Kevin with his left arm around her and holding her right hand in his as they watched the movie. Laura felt as if she had died and gone to heaven! Kevin admitted to himself that it felt right also. Laura got so relaxed. She laid her head on his strong shoulder. Kevin followed her lead and rested his head on top of hers. Brian glanced over for a split second and saw them like that. He nudged Nick, and he looked over too, and smiled. Soon everyone was watching them more than the movie, but eventually their attention shifted back to the TV. Laura sighed as Kevin reached up to caress her cheek, and he felt that she was crying, because it was the part of the movie where Meg Ryan's character dies, a part that no matter how many times she saw it, always stirred her emotions. I can't believe how beautiful she is, not only outside but inside as well, Kevin thought as he held her a bit tighter. I'm glad she feels comfortable enough to show her emotions like that. After about 15 more minutes, the movie was done. Laura sat up and saw Kevin looking at her with that look again, the one that was so different from all the other times he looked her way. "What?" she asked, trying not to sound defensive, but she just isn't used to someone looking at her with such intensity in their eyes. Well, except for Mike... but Mike was far from her mind at that moment. "Nothing," he replied, "I am just touched that you cried. I thought I was the only one that cried at that part." Oh my God, she thought, a guy that's not afraid to show his emotions! "Well, I'm glad I got to cry with you," she joked and smiled. He smiled back at her. Both of them still felt as if they were alone, but they were reminded of everyone else's presence when Howie got up to stop the tape and turn on the lights.
"Wow, that one was good too!" Howie said. AJ agreed. "Yeah I thought it would be a chick-flick, but it was really great." Everyone agreed. Everyone also agreed that if they were going to leave later in the afternoon the next day that they should call it a night now, as it was already a bit past 1 AM.
Howie and AJ got everyone's coats, and Brian and Nick left first, then AJ, then Kevin and Laura. As they stood outside ready to get into their cars, Kevin verified plans for tomorrow afternoon with Laura. "So, your place, tomorrow afternoon, haircut," he said. "Yep," she replied, "2 PM."
Kevin leaned in close to her ear and said softly, "I'll be there by 1:30," and then kissed her on the cheek...
