What the previous page was showing was how useless a lot of religious explanations are. The religion I espouse on that page cannot be disproven, but what does it prove? Nothing. In scientific terms, it is non-falsifiable. If a theory or explanation cannot, in principle, be falsified then it says nothing about the world.
This can be seen clearly with my example, everything can be explained in terms of the idols, and anything at all that happens can be put down to one or the other of them. In Christianity, it is a little more subtle. People pray, and say that their prayers get answered. Their prayers don't always get answered how they expect, and why is this, because 'God moves in mysterious ways' or 'It was not part of Gods plan' or 'God sees into our hearts and knows what we really want' There is no way that the possibility that God doesn't answer prayers can even be considerd, and so there is no way of knowing (rather than believing) if God is there.
Saying that all ones prayers get answered will not convince me, unless it is possible to test the outcome of a prayer BEFORE it is said. For example, if I have hurt my foot, and I pray for the foot to be healed, what is the measure of success? If my foot feels a little better? A lot better? Totally better? If we cannot even judge the success of that then we are a long way from judging prayer as a way of curing real diseases such as Cancer.
