Amazingly enough, I'm writing a web-page, on an old computer...that DIDN'T crash!! I don't know if I should fall on my face with gratitude or give a good solemn "told ya so!!"
I wonder what the doomsdayers will come up with next? It seems everytime something new rises on the horizon of man's imagination someone, somewhere, is foreseeing the end of it all.
Hmmmmmm....the end of it all.
It seems to me that I personally have viewed "the end of it all" at least six or seven times since the moment of my birth. You see, I had the distinct pleasure of growing up within range of the Three Mile Island nuclear energy plant. I can remember one particularly sleepless night not all that long ago as a direct result of said plant.
I've also had the dubious distinction of growing up in a flood plain...I've lost more than one night's sleep to that.
All along you see, someone made mention of the fact that it was, indeed, "the end of it all."
Do you remember all of those awful "nuclear holocaust" movies of the late 70's and early 80's? While I would not be so bold as to down-play the horrendous nature of such weapons, the movies seemed to have been just one more vehicle for the inevitable demise of society as we know it.
And let's not for a moment forget the very real happenings in places like Jonestown and San Diego. You see, Jim Jones' followers believed it was the end just as surely as did the members of the Hale Bopp Cult, and sadly enough, for them it was just that. I do not have the time or room here to even go into events such as wars, dictatorships, famines and all the other "ends" to which so many have viewed it personally.
You see, in the cold light of day, I truly do believe that the world does indeed end for at least some of us everyday. From the moment any of us draws our first breath, we are locked in the spiral of our eventual demise. And I might ask...Why? Why does it take the possible destruction of everything and everyone for any of us to really sit up and take notice? Ahhh, but the beauty of all of this is, there is always a new dawn. There always has been, and so long as our beloved Mother Earth spins, there always will be.
So...bring on the doomsdayers. I truly am interested to see what will be the next "the end of it all."
