Brendon Lamont, an energetic freshman, had to have been the most complex out of all of the kids. His enthusiasm flourished as spirit week went on in the school. He's involved in school activities and very excited to be part of the school spirit. He's sadly let down after spirit week comes to a halt, when no one seems to care anymore about school spirit. He had a great vision of high school and in one week, went from everything he dreamed it to be, to a complete let down. This distroyed his whole outlook on high school.

He slowly sinks into depression and finds drugs as his refuge. Acid is one of his greater substance abuse problems. He drinks and smokes. Cigarettes have been with him since before freshman year though. He's moved onto marijuana. He also uses codeine. Later on he turns to dealing drugs. He finds it much more thrilling and fulfilling then working a common job.

We learn a lot about his family life. His parents aren't happy. They used to live in Houston, Texas, and were forced to move because of Brendon's father's job. Ever since then everything has gone down hill. He has barely any communication with his family. He constantly wishes he could be in a normal family life.

Brendon seems to be all about drugs. In the end he has two loves, the art of graffiti, and his girlfriend Carol. His graffiti gets him into trouble. Brendon is a very talented artist. If Brendon represents anything, it's the struggle to find one's self. He seems to look for who he is in any ways that he can. He is an active Boy Scout (although he is forced, and ends up dropping out of this his sophomore year), a member of a youth group at his church, a wrestler on the school team, a graffiti artist, and a substance abuser. Brendon searches hard for himself through the good and the bad aspects.
