The
Mountain Flame University of Magick is located above (when I say above,
I mean hovering above the shaft) of an active volcano. The lava is channeled
and used for energy and heat. The University itself may be reached either
by dragon, or, for tourists, pilgrims and new students (the arduous journey)
through the shaft of the volcano itself. Now, you may be asking, "How can
a person travel on the inside of the shaft of a live volcano?" If you are
not, I congratulate you for having figured this most basic of questions
out: IT'S MAGICK! A shielded staircase circles the magma core of the volcano,
allowing travellers to pass up and down. However, the tunnel leading into
the chamber has caved in. There are Fire Drakes currently building a new
one. It should be finished relatively soon.
About the University:
Mountain
Flame University of Magick (from now on MFUM) has been standing for over
2,800 years. It is taught primarily by dragons, although humans teach the
courses about humans. As far as all magickally concerned classes, the dragons
are in charge. Students are offered an option after they have 'graduated'.
I have put graduated in quotes because such a thing never really happens.
A student has 'graduated' when they have fulfilled their magickal potential
to the fullest. It takes longer for some than others. A student may spend
6 years there, or 23, depending upon how far they can pursue their talents,
and how far they want to pursue their talents. Anyway, after a student
of MFUM has 'graduated' they are given a choice either to devote their
lives to teaching or to pursue a single field of magickal study. A few
students, my lucky self and DragonSeer included, are Chosen.
To
be Chosen is a great task. A Chosen person must spend many, many years
honing their talents to pinprick accuracy, because a Chosen person has
a dangerous job. They scout magick. We are the guinea pigs of the magickal
world. We write the spells, teach them to people, and develop new laws
of magick. When I say laws, I do not mean rules, rather physical principles
applying to magick and new spells. We weave the fabric of magick itself.
We are also Chosen to become dragons.
When
a human 'becomes' a dragon, a huge change overcomes the person. When I
was Chosen, I only knew of my life from childhood to my Choosing. After
I was Chosen and Became, I Knew. I knew my past lives, my goals, my purpose
in the universe. I am not allowed to reveal such secrets, but I am allowed
to tell this much about the Becoming. The secrets of the birth of the universe
and time itself are revealed. A Chosen one becomes part of the fabric of
time, space and magick, and is in direct contact with the five elements
of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit, not to mention the other seven dimensions,
which cannot be fully explained to you mortals, but will be in time, when
you are wiser. This is why we are able to create magick.
All
dragons are born with this knowledge, but a human Becoming a dragon, has
this new influx of information. Many of the Chosen ones have not survived
the Becoming, but have died from the emotional, mental or psychic stress,
or gone crazy. It is a rough journey, but has been, and forever will be
worth it. I say forever, because the Chosen ones are immortal.
This
