Exercise

If exercise is what you like to do to maintain your body in a healthy way, then by all means go to the gym or whatever you like to do. I recommend varying your workout though.
An Aerobic program is wonderful, but if your shins begin to hurt from all that stepping or you can't get into the class for any reason, what then?
Lifting weights is a great muscular workout. Your muscles appreciate the time you spend pumping iron, (and I'm talking about pushing blood into them). They are healthy. What if you have no spotter one day, or the gym is closed?

Any uniformly set physical activity is working on specific parts of the body, and doing it a specific way. A jogger may not be able to lift as much weight as a body builder but he could probably run farther. A stair-machine 'master' might not be able to row a boat as far as a rowing-machine 'master' but they could probably hike farther up a steep incline. These are the results of target routines. They target a single activity or specific body system. Some people may truly enjoy doing a specific routine for a month or six months, a year or two, or forever even, but some people get tired. A rut slips in around them or circumstances change and they may quit. If you can't do your specific workout that one day, one week, or one month, what then, let the benefits of exercise go?
No way!
Why not use the pool and try an aquafit program every once in a while, or just do laps or play with your kids in the water? You will still be working all those same muscles but in a different way to increase your body's physical capacity for exercise. You still get the cardiovascular (heart, blood, lung) workout and the muscular workout. You may even feel some muscles groaning the next day as the forgotten ones remind you that they haven't been used.
You may choose to go for a walk or a hike if it's a nice day. Interact with nature, listen to the birds, or explore some place you had planned on going to but never quite made it. Hiking around a provincial or state park is a surprisingly difficult workout, but you won't even think about that while you climb over rocks, down paths, and over trees.

If you try something new every week or every month, and add what you enjoyed to your weekly variety of workout choices, you will soon find that you look forward to being active. Try scuba, try rock climbing, try kayaking, try the mall walk! Try anything that will get you moving. Then you won't be exercising anymore. Instead you will become a physically active person, healthy and fit by choice and lifestyle.

I hope that you have found this information useful. I will be adding information and health concepts on an ongoing basis, so please stop by often. Any feedback is also welcome.
