Achika Masaki isn't seen much in the Tenchi-Muyo sagas because she died when her son, Tenchi, was very young. However, the Tenchi in Love movie is focused on her quite a bit. Achika is the daughter of Yosho, so she has the duty of guarding earth, as her ancestors before her. Achika might've lived longer if she had not used up much of her Jurai life force to protect the earth from Kain. The movie focuses on how Achika and Nobuyuki met in high school, and fell in love. The rest is history. Achika is a wonderfully caring individual, probably the most genuinely loving soul in the whole Tenchi-Muyo story (figures that she would die at a young age). In other story lines, we find out that before she died, Achika left Tenchi a crystal charm. The crystal, when activated, transforms into a powerfully dangerous sword (so the guardian can effectively protect the earth). For safety reasons, the 6 girls living with Tenchi each take a sliver of the charm. Thus, they are all cosmically linked, meaning, them all coming to the Masaki Shrine to live together was no coincidence. The charms keep them together and connected, if they are not joined, the power of the crystal is weakened (as demonstrated in the Tenchi in Tokyo series, when Yugi separated the Masaki family and tried to take over the world). Achika is a kind and loving soul who sacrificed herself to save the world and her family. A truly great woman.
