Update November 2001: The Laval Junior Girls Handball team has qualified to attend the May 2002 Canadian Championships to be held in Saskatchewan. Cheer us on and help us raise enough dough to ge us there, so we may come back with another medal... this time the right color... :)

"What is Team Handball?"

This is a Handball Court. The object of the game is to get the ball in the opposing team's net, without stepping on or in the goalie area. The goalie area, or the 6m line, is the solid curved line at each end of the court. No one is allowed within this area except the goalie himself at any point within the game. Penalty shots are taken from the 7m line, and jump shot are usually taken anywhere past the 9m, which is the dotted curved line.
Apart from the goalies, there are 12 players on the court, six on each team. Two wingers, two backs, a center and a pivot. The pivot and both wings are often playing along the defensive line, while the center and both backs, stay near the center line.
Wingers: They need to be quick and flexible, because the angle from which they have to shoot at the net is poor.
Backs: The backs are fast and tall. They tend to score from further out, so they are generally very good jumpers.
Center: The center needs to be a quick thinker and has to keep his eyes open to see his players. He has to make the decision as to where to pass the ball for a better opportunity to score.
Pivot: And last but definitely not least, the pivot. This player hangs around the defensive line as to create openings for him and his teammates. The pivot also needs to be quick thinking and flexible, since they often have to do 180's to turn around and shoot.
