Quoting from the Eedrmans Bible Dictionary:

"To bless means variously to worship or praise, to bestow goodness and favor, and to invoke such qualities upon another.  When applied to God, the terms imply homage or adoration offered in gratitude (Gen 24:48; Deut 11:29; Ps 66:8)."
